How very random :D  Samantha Jade won X-Factor in Australia, and her first single is by Jörgen Elofsson.

What You've Done to Me
Anthony Egizii, David Musumeci, Jörgen Elofsson & Tania Doko

It's very STRONGER, quite like it.

Live performance here.

We had a thread about here as she was rumoured to work with Max Martin :D

I am SO glad she won! I was astonished Jason Owen got as far as he did. He's a nice country boy with a unique voice which people obviously found interesting, but vocally he's quite weak, every song was one dimensional and full of flat notes. It would have been a bit embarrassing for the country if he won to be honest. :-\

Anyway, Samantha's winning single, "What You've Done To Me" was the strongest out of the three finalists, I'm so glad it's getting a release and that Jörgen is involved. Her mentor, Guy Sebastian, said from his first listen that he thought it was a hit. He should know, having released Jörgen's "Angels Brought Me Here" when he won Australian Idol!

I think Samantha has international potential, so I really hope she goes all the way. Funny she'll now be signed to Sony who were the parent company of Jive when she was dropped! ;D

EDIT: I just noticed that Tania Doko is a co-writer, she was one half of a popular Australian duo in the late nineties called Bachelor Girl. She also co-wrote the 2010 German X-Factor winning single with Jörgen called "The Key".

Oh, you are very well informed, love it :D

And "The Key" - I knew it was by Jörgen, but Tania wasn't a familiar name at that time.

I am glad she works so much with Swedes, I am sure we will hear lots by her (solo stuff and material for other artists)

And Bachelor Girl was also introduced to me very recently - I really like "Buses and trains", very good pop track.

Must check her other stuff too.

But great effort that X-Factor Australia hat 3 different original songs instead of just covers!  :)

And my other favourite by Guy Sebastian is "Cover my heart" (also Swedish track). Gorgeous balld.

That's what I call a ballad.  8)

I've just posted in the thread where it's discussed how to write catchy melodies and here once again the instrumental follows a very very simple and common structure while all the power lies in the songs melody.

Like the track.

I kind of agree. But at the same time, the chord choices are perfect here and I think the melody would lose a lot of it's strength with a poor progression under it. Take even the minor chords out of this chorus and it just wouldn't work half as well. I love this progression in "So What" too, but I'm starting to get the feeling I'm just too in love with chords haha! :D I guess you end up having to use the same structures over and over again because there are too few strong ones to choose from, so you end up coming back to what works. Melody has a lot more room for variety I think.

In my book, that's their best song, and most successful here. I was totally in love with it when I was 13. :)

This btw is another formula they use extensively but that's also the reason why nowadays many listeners (not only pros) tend to say sometimes that songs sound the same.

wow, that is great if Samantha Jade works with Max Martin. I didn't even watch X-Factor, in fact I had no idea who she was until I read this thread! I really like the Jorgen song

turnaround

Great, the song is available worldwide.

QuoteSamantha Jade has smashed into the ARIA No.1 spot with her debut single after just three days of sales.

What You've Done To Me was released about 10pm last Tuesday after she was announced as the 2012 X Factor winner.

It has been one of the fastest selling singles of the year and already certified gold for downloads of more than 35,000 copies.

I doubt she'll work with Max this time around, but I'm assuming there are unheard tracks out there from the first album that never saw the light of day. :( "Turn Around" has peaked at 53 in the ARIA Charts this week though, so at least her win is drawing attention to her old material.

One cool thing from that article (apart from the track going three times platinum) is the Britney video story. I had no idea that the "Piece Of Me" video shoot was almost given to Samantha as a backup plan (to be used for her song "Eyes On Me"). Jive had put too much money into it to throw it away if Britney didn't show up.
