Title: Coldplay - album "Everyday Life" (two Max co-productions)
Post by: nanofives on November 06, 2019, 02:05:21 PM
Max is credited as a Programmer, Co-Producer and Keyboards on Coldplay's new song according to Tidal.

Quite hard to believe in my opinion since there's no news related to it and it just doesn't sound like Max.

My first thought on this was that somebody got confused by C. Martin and M. Martin. What I heard C. Martin say is that he is always responsible for keyboards on the Coldplay tracks. He felt bad that he didn't do the keyboard on the Sky Full Of Stars (keyboard was done by Avicii).

I always take into consideration that someone could make a typo while entering a name in the credits. I saw a few times changes in the writing credits as time goes on due to mistakes. Also, the song is written by someone named Moses Martin, it could easily be mistaken by Max Martin if its written as "M. Martin".

EDIT: Moses Martin is the son of Chris Martin and he's 13 so... hard time believing he did the programming and co-producing, It's also hard to believe if the typo leads to C. Martin since Chris was never credited as a co-producer and a programming in any of his previous albums.

Feels pretty plausible that it's Moses Martin and someone thought M. Martin must mean Max Martin. Chris' son was part of the writing but it's just weird that wikipedia lists Max on the keyboards, but Moses "wrote" the drum pattern so it must be that.

Well, the 12yo kid could have an idea and other people made it happen but they gave him proper credit.
Plus, it's candy for the press.

Exactly! The original voice memo for the song is played in the music video where he gives the suggestion for a drum beat.

Of course it could be... It easily explains the co writer credit, but what about keyboards, co production and programming? Those roles go way beyond having an idea for the drum pattern.

There's also credits for percussion and drums (yes, separated) and Moses is not there, can you see the point? The puzzle doesn't fit. Maybe I shouldn't read too much into this, but I refuse to come to the conclusion that Spotify, Tidal and Qobuz credits turned out to be unreliable.

Almost 34 millions views in just a week.

Well, I guess we'll know when they start doing press for the album but honestly I don't think there's a Max involvement.
I noticed Aluna Francis in the gang vocals and Federico Vindver at additional production. He's from Argentina, Mariano!

Yeah I doubt it as well, seems unlikely that Max would just stumble in to a Coldplay session and just lay down some keyboards and stuff. I've seen Max credited as a co-writer some places also which makes it plausible that everything is just supposed to be Moses.

-According to Wikipedia (what a reliable source hey!) and Discogs.com Max Martin is a co-producer on 'Orphans' and 'Champion of the World'.
-According to Wikipedia Max Martin is a songwriter on 'Orphans'.

If anyone has a good, reliable source (best would be pictures of book inside cd) please share.

Thank you bugmenot. Personally I wouldn't qualify that as a good, reliable source. The most reliable (and the ones I hope for) are the credits inside the cd book. Just because Craig Jenkins writes as a journalist for Vulture or Michael Owen Baker for NY Times does not make it valid to me, for they as well might rely on the same sources that we have seen till now. But hey, that's just my opinion. But still thanks for the help!

That's a denial. No, journalists in such big media don't use discogs to write paid articles from press-releases that a record-label sent them. Google is not how media get information.

That's SOOOOOO GOOD!

I see the BL similarity! Even more 80s throwback schmaltz with those synths.

Vocally, it reminds me of Mat Kearney too. Finally a Coldplay song that I can get behind

Great song, Chris stays Chris lyrically. Many little hooks. Great b-hook. At first listen it felt a little odd, but it is a song that grows on you (remember how John Seabrook described how he disliked Roar when he heard it first (Luke played it for him) and later started loving it? It's that type of song to me). Fit for radio, fit for top 10 BB.

Chris Martin talks about "Higher Power," Max Martin, and Eco-Friendly Tour for Apple Music.

He said Max is the best producer of all time and going to "dates" before they get to work together.
Title: Re: Coldplay - album "Everyday Life" (two Max co-productions)
Post by: nanofives on May 14, 2021, 11:35:43 PM
I haven't heard anyone mentioning the "dates" process to approach Max, is it because they haven't collaborated before?

"Max is all producer right now" what does it mean? He doesn't write as often?

I was expecting to talk about his credits in "Everyday Life", could it be that Chris didn't know that Max Martin had additional production credits in two of his songs? Or maybe the input wasn't as big as he thinks?

"Albums are outdated" What do you guys think about that? I've got mixed feelings about it
Title: Re: Coldplay - album "Everyday Life" (two Max co-productions)
Post by: Snipes3000 on May 15, 2021, 12:38:12 AM
I thought he said "max is our producer now"? On Everyday Life Max was probably a (co-)producer who comes in when the song is almost done, similar to how Rami was used in the Gaga Ft Ariana song (article on that process online, also on the recent 47min podcast with rami of which i forgot the name he talked about the process).

I think albums are outdated in a sense, considering that youth behaves different now than I did as a kid in the 90's who recorded albums on tapes and later on cd, then napstar bulk download came in to overload hard discs. The streaming platforms (deezer, spotify, youtube music etc.)  arrange a behaviour that is more aimed at playlists, rather than albums in general I think. So from the perspective of "new kids" I think albums are becoming less popular. Lots of 25 year olds don't even know about the practice of downloading actual data on a harddisc with software (napstar, kazaa, limewire were some. Currently soulseek is the one im using). On the other hand, albums are less outdated for my age group, say 26 years old +. But from major label perspective we are not as relevant to them as we once were. Also consider the fact that people bought albums because of one or a few songs on it. the other songs were just filling up the album, so artists could get away with selling average songs together with their hit. Now there is no need to get the song by buying the album. You can just select the song, play it and move on. Back in the early 00's with mini discs (was just as worse as copying a tape) and later mp3 players such as ipod it was also possible to make playlists with favorites, but it was kind of limited because updating it constantly was really a task. This streaming age has brought us total flexibility in selecting songs and we are never again stuck on the playlist i made a week ago for my ipod or for my cd that has only 80 minutes of music on it, walking around with maps filled with cd's. We don't even have to make playlists ourselves because there are a bunch of people who get paid to make playlists weekly, or even daily with all the new stuff in the genre that you like. Perfect for people, no time is lost, just click play without having to do any work. This landscape makes albums irrelevant and myself, I haven't played filler material of new released albums. I only play the singles. So I have changed as well, due to the flexibilty spotify provides me on my desktop pc. No more browsing through windows explorer going through maps I sorted per year and searching for music. Just spotify search and see everything right in front of me.

I think he meant the album as a format. People now listen to songs, on YouTube or a streaming platform.

Only established artists release albums: it takes more time, more budget, usually artists tour the album in order to get money out of it as well, all this from the perspective of consumption.

New album track "Coloratura" out this Friday as well, with the next single following in September: https://twitter.com/coldplay/status/1417501479263477770?s=20

Also, it says in the tweet "Volume 1" so I guess there's more than one album?

My favorite snippet from the album trailer is the second song, after Higher Power

Not an entire album but 2017 he was dominantly present on Reputation (Taylor Swift) and Witness (Katy Perry). He never had an entire album done by him as far as I know. He is also dominantlly present on 1989 (Taylor Swift), Here I Am (Marion Raven), Unbeautiful (Lesley Roy), Coming to terms (Carolina Liar), Prism (Katy Perry), and probably some albums during the Cheiron era.

Interesting album yes I think so too, but I think a lot of the fans of max are going to be disappointed because they expect BB fit pop music. Coldplay is rather a band which has the qualities to shine on the adult charts I believe.

One of the best songs of Max in my view is Finish What We Started (Zac Brown Band). Similar to coldplay content, it is also adult music. It is, however, never really talked about because it isn't fit for BB. It's really adult content. I love the BGV heard for the first time from 1:56. The song is just so perfectly developing in terms of dynamics. First chorus is sang softly, and later it explodes. And the percussion is also so cool. It is the first country song I know of that Max has been involved in, which should make it extra intersting for those who want to learn from max.

Could also be Selena Gomez on the remix that is scheduled to come out at the time when the song has reached top 10, using the remix to boost it towards #1. Just like happened with Say So featuring Nicki Minaj and Mega Thee Stallion Savage ft Beyonce and I Hope featuring Charlie Puth, and quite a few other examples of this trend recently. Save you tears featuring Ariana. All these remixes wouldn't been published if the song was not present on billboard.

Awesome song, maybe a little bit too much sugar-coated on the message. PDOGG has the talent of making kpop acts still sound like kpop no matter the context. It's weird but it works.
The outro is pure Bliss.
After the song finished my mind went directly on singing the chorus of higher by clean bandit.

Chris Martin Performs Coldplay X BTS New Single 'My Universe' (Acoustic)

I just heard this and other type of Shellback circa 2013 arrangement popped into my head.

According to the documentary, max didn't meet BTS or pdogg, Chris took the song and travelled to Korea, I also think he didn't even touch BTS' vocals.
For me the rap verses have a weird flow, not very max-ish

The video is out, seems like Coldplay is holding back BTS massive fanbase, their view counts don't get anywhere as close as other BTS songs.
The song grew on me though.

Another N1 for max and oscar, I was worried this one would even crack the top 10 seeing how it underperformed other songs on YouTube.

38M view in 5 days... seems pretty big to me

Of course it is, but it's less than half of other BTS comebacks, I think it's because it was uploaded on Coldplay's channel... as it should be.
But I agree, no matter if it's not as high, the army carries around a massive fanbase and will boost anyone who collaborates with them.

Oh, and it seems we'll have a Selena Gomez collaboration after all.

It's wholesome, catchy, amazing but at the same time it doesn't feel like Coldplay and the theme of the album is kinda odd.
I wish more collaborators jumped in to help Max with this album, but seems like only Oscar Holter was in for this ride.

Infinity sign and People of The Pride are my favorites.

I don't agree with that it doesn't feel like coldplay, but I do believe that the theme seems to drive the album too much.

Infinity is not a real song to me because a crowd just sings olé ole olé. My favourite song is higher power.

I was wondering if there are people on this forum who enjoy higher power the most from the coldplay album? It's among my current favourite songs. Any likeminded people? I desire for that second chorus and the 3th chorus (with that guitar sound added).

It's for sure one of the strongest tracks on the album

A CD personnel list credits Max Martin and Oscar Holter as producers of Coldplay co-written Jin's (of BTS) single The Astronaut while Spotify doesn't.

Extended credits are not available in any streaming music service for this song, i think they're credited as co-producers, which is a category not displayed by Spotify

Max is an executive producer, says Kygo's website.
Oscar is additional production in parenthesis and programming. it also has two co-producers Daniel Green & Michael Ilbert.
Not much but at least something!
The song is simple but cute
Coldplay performed it live on SNL (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=64W30CcJqjA) yesterday.
