If Max is not involved, I'm not really interested.

Britney is like a mimmick of herself nowadays.

I liked it but I don't love it.

It's not what I expected but is a nice song :)

According to the iTunes file, the song was written by Britney Spears, BURNS, Joe Janiak & Gerald Gillum.

Britney has ghostwriting credits!
Plus: Joe Janiak was Ellie Goulding tour guitarist turned songwriter.
He originally wrote Beating Heart and wrote some stuff wit Mattman and Robin that ended up recorded by Adam Lambert and Take That.

Funny, neither Britneys nor Katy Perrys new songs are available on streaming services? Are they the new Adele/Taylor Swifts?

Britney's song is quite ordinary. It's sad really. I would love her to have another big hit

Bad idea not to have your songs on streaming. They're putting money first, fair enough, however I'm sure they earn enough touring etc.

Do you think it was a coincidence that both Katy and Britney have released their songs on the same day or that it was planned to mobilise the fan bases to get them to #1?

Both songs are quite good but they are so boring, why everything has to be so slow? I wouldn't be surprises if neither songs reach N1

It's been #1 on iTunes since last night and is holding strong.

And it's refreshing to have a change of pace in a Britney lead single. We've come to expect the banger but I really like this slow burning song, the lush chorus, and chilly atmosphere. Pulls from current pop music trends while staying Britney. The video is gonna push the song even more on charts.

I've read lots of people comparing this song with Ariana's Dangerous Woman.

Title: Re: Britney Spears - Make Me (Ooh)
Post by: nanofives on July 16, 2016, 12:30:43 AM
Sorry, I meant 1 on billboard, iTunes it's not very representative since all fanbases can take a song to number 1 over there.
It's not pulling anything on the current state of pop music since year after year most billboard top 10 hits are slow and sometimes boring
I won't name all but see hello Adele, the hills weeknd, thinking out loud ed, just to name a few. And this isnt something outstanding.
Anyway, I love the song already, it grew on me very fast lol.

Private Show is out tomorrow.
Is available in some markets.

Written by Britney Spears, Carla Williams, Tramaine Winfrey & Simon Smith.

Love the production.
Hate her vocals. I never heard something so disgusting from her.

the video is out:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=etfJCm0nfr4&feature=youtu.be

they re-shot it unfortunately. David LaChapelle directed the first version and there was mess behind the scenes so they made a more boring, safe concept... this era is doomed.

Jason Evigan, Julia Michaels & Justin Tranter (the 3 Js) are usually fire. However the latter two have proved that they're also able to write boring songs as well (Gwen album).

couldn't agree more. he gets the best vocal out of her, and the vocal production is engineered and edited with perfection and precision.

no sloppy splits and cuts and odd vocal tuning. Private Show is a great song but the nasally chorus vocals are questionable. like, why didn't they tell her in the studio she sounded like that?

Actually, it was Max who vocal produced.
Something like "Max Martin made Britney".

For example: during the boyband years -and Max spoke about this topic during the Polar expo- he positioned the artists' voice to the head while singing in head voice.
Examples: BSB, Britney, NSYNC, Celine Dion's Love Is All We Need, etc.

Who's vocal producing this? Britney?
I swear I can't stand her vocals.
And I am -was?- a die hard fan.

Someone has to be in the podium, don't you think? Someone who can define generations.
I don't think it should be Britney but a few years ago I could have say that without a doubt.
At least she's more involved in the creative process of the album, I mean, she wrote most of the songs... like her last album... well, now I'm more disappointed. :-\

Make Me... has quite a lot parallels to Adam's and Tove's Rumors. The clap sound right before the chorus sounds even copied.

Besides that it is such a decent "comeback" single, love it. Looking so much forward to her new album <3

Wow, I really want to know how they come up with these ''weird'' sounding songs. I mean some of these ideas on first listen sound completely wrong, but eventually they become the parts you look forward to the most. How do you know not to dismiss those ideas when they come to you (or are presented to you) for the first time? I feel like these ''weird songs'' are a completely different ballgame as songs that are intended to sound melodically pleasing. Is there anybody who can elaborate on this?
Title: Re: Britney Spears - Make Me (Ooh)
Post by: georg_e on August 21, 2016, 06:14:48 PM
Loved this song! Well it seems a few key elements create that "weird" feeling haha :-) First is the chord progression with the guitar on verse, which is a bit "outside" the key. Then, later in song, the background vocal part "dooooo you waannnt" is a 'normal' melody in itself, but sung against that chord progression it sounds  a little spooky. Then of course the "shouted" chorus part, which is quite unique.  But then the Prechorus is such a smart contrast to all that, because it's sung over a very "harmonious" chord progression, and the melody is outstanding in that part.
A think a lot of how they may have arrived at this stuff is just from listening to earlier Britney more experimental stuff like on "Blackout", and songs like "Toxic". And then adding their own twist ....whatever --  it's great!

I wonder who wrote that Spanish verse in Change your mind, it's very hard to tell.
The album overall is not very upbeat, it's boring for some moments, but I praise OzGO for the sound in Hard to Forget Ya, M&R and Evigan, nice sound coming from those.

They play with the fans who don't want over produced vocals... so this is the result, nasal voice. Or they picth her vocals like they did in the album with the song What You Need.

I'd much rather have "overproduced" vocals than sloppily and weirdly produced vocals. I mean listen to her on Invitation. Wtf? It's like they put a phaser effect on one of the vocal tracks and it makes it sound garggly and splotchy and rough. But even on Private Show her vocals are to the front and nice and clear.

Other songs, mostly, she is layered in background vocals (as usual with Britney) but I find her lead vocals to be less recognizable than in the past. And also as if she was giving the bare minimum in the studio and not adding that many vocal variations or adlibs. Here and there she does a little melisma but it's almost half-hearted or feels required. Max always has his artists add stellar vocal adlibs or countermelodies to his songs; adding more as the song progresses so that it grows and becomes fuller by the end.

After the poor sales I guess her label is not going to invest on a project with Max, that I guess will be a lot of money and since Britney is so lazy I guess she prefere these producers because we know that Max is a perfectionist.

re DYWCO:

During the first verse you think: what the hell is going on here? And right before you're tempted to skip this refreshing pre-chorus comes up. And all of a sudden you start to like what you hated before - the chorus (which is basically the verse, just with more drums etc. - simply with more power). And after that you're looking forward to the next (pre-)chorus. And during the song you start to realize what kind of geniuses Matt & Rob are. Brilliant song after all. :-X

Britney Spears will be releasing her debut album ...Baby One More Time on picture disc vinyl this week. This comes after two sought-after Urban Outfitters-exclusive pressings; the 2017 original pressing on 1,500 pink-and-white-swirl LPs, and this month's clear pressing of over 10,000 copies.

The new Amazon picture disc vinyl listing is secretive, without her name, and only a fragment of the title. It seems as though it is intentionally hidden from relevant search results, as I only found it by chance about 40 pages deep in a "coming soon" vinyl search.

Looks like Britney is not going back to Las Vegas.

Rudolph tells us it's always been up to Britney when she wanted to work and when she didn't. He said, "Last summer, when she wanted to tour, she called me every day. She was excited. She hasn't called me in months. Crickets. She clearly doesn't want to perform now."

As for the future, Rudolph says, "I don't want her to work again 'till she's ready, physically, mentally and passionately. If that time never comes again it will never come again. I have no desire or ability to make her work again. I am only here for her when she wants to work. And, if she ever does want to work again, I'm here to tell her if it's a good idea or a bad idea."

Pretty disgusting of Larry to deflect and pin it on Britney saying she hasn't called him in months. GEE, why do you think that is? What could the reason be for that? She has a mental illness and isn't doing well. She's never had a proper break from the machine and needs some serious recovery. Therapy, no more meds, move out of LA, whatever it is she needs to be happy. Larry and her terrible team/handlers, devoid of any creativity or humility, have pushed her to churn out album, tour, and Vegas, year after year. After 2007/2008 she was shoved right back into Circus.

Pretty terrible that he's made a statement to TMZ of all sources - known for being undignified and classless. And once again not letting HER talk or tell HER side of things. I hope she doesn't perform for years if that's what it takes to have her be happy. I hope she fires Larry and takes a long break from the industry. I'm sure they're worried about what she would do in that time, her safety, her getting photographed etc. But there must be a way to prevent it

Also, on a note about the next album, from what I've read Justin Tranter is no longer executive-producing and her team is looking for a new group of writers and producers to helm the record. She also was in the studio with Danja not too long ago, although I'm guessing that's also been scrapped. I would love for her to do a whole album with Mattman & Robin, the songs they did with her are some of their absolute best, in my opinion.

Good. Sorry, I honestly hated his name attached to Glory and her in general. She needs fresh producers and writers. Not Selena Gomez writers. Mattman & Robin's stuff is good but a little meh to me. She needs people to bring her to the next level or do a complete 360. No basic industry-type writers and producers.

Danja is a good idea. Get her back with the Swedes - imagine a Bloodshy & Avant reunion. Or do something cool and collab on a whole album with Miike Snow/Galantis or something.

I don't think she would be making new music anytime soon if she gets her freedom back, she sounds like a tired woman needing a break ASAP.
Even though she remembers Max fondly it was always while saying that her sessions with him where very hard-working, I think she might want easy-going writers, even if that means that the end product is not so good.

I think Britney would do great with Matman and Robin. They get GREAT vocals from her.

And back in the day, she was REALLY into weird and avantgarde producers and stuff but her staff never let her do that stuff.
She worked with Moby, BT, James Murphy, Missy Elliott & Timbaland, Guy Sigsworth and some of the weirdest production by Bloodshy & Avant.

I would mind if she works with Dr Luke and Max again, Skrillex, Benny Blanco or any of the Wolf Cousins.
And definitely try some hyperpop stuff. I don't know if any of you knows about that.

I wouldn't mind a feature with Megan Thee Stallion or Doja Cat or Saweetie.
I would book sessions with Charli XCX, Kim Petras and Aaron Joseph, Julia Michaels, Starrah and some people who's not doing strictly pop but their stuff has pop appeal.

But first of all: I would ask her what does she envision about the project. And totally would not go into a project like Rainbow by Kesha: a whole album based on the struggle.

I LOVE the collab ideas you mentioned. A female collab album or project would be soooo sick - Doja, Charli XCX, Kim. Her doing hyper pop or some extension of pop other than what she's normally done sounds like heaven. How I Roll glitchy B&A type stuff. So here for it.

Also agree with you on your point about veering away from a soppy Head Above Water or Rainbow album for sure. Maybe one song, if that, about her struggles, but I think she (And we'd) rather get lost in the pop fantasy and get a fully fleshed out world, in the way Britney used to do visually with her albums.

Courtney Love singing "Lucky". As she puts it, it's written by "those fantastic, old Swedish people-gentlemen" ;D.

Wow, I never knew that one could butcher a perfect pop song that much 😂

I would love to hear Slayyyter's eponymous mixtape completely interpreted by Britney Spears.

Cute little story Josh Schwartz told on this podcast about Britney hiding from Max and Rami while recording "I'm Not a Girl, Not Yet a Woman" (timestamp is 17:14).

Ahahah wondering if he knows any of the story about Bombastic Love alternate version...but Cheiron team won't be up for this kind of interviews even if I saw Rami way more involved in these kind of stuff.

Any of y'all heard this? It kinda slaps, not gonna lie, haha.

Not until now. It's a little too on the nose for me. Those references she names are a bit cringey for my tastes.  :-X

It's one thing to pay homage to an icon, but to recall a year for her that was particularly traumatizing reads as a bit tone deaf. The lyrics "I feel like Britney in 2007/After divorcing Kevin" is just offensive tbh

Trip to your heart is one of my fave songs from Femme Fatale.

Great project but she was a zombie through that period.

Ironic since that was some of her most high octane, pure electro pop she's done all her career. Musically, I love the album and production. It was so polished and Britney-esque. Almost fitting that she was zombie-ish and phoning it in back then..: makes the era all the more mysterious

It's sad to think from Blackout onwards she was in pain and hated nearly every minute of making and promoting those albums. There was something about the Femme Fatale era especially where you could tell she had completely disassociated and was just this shell of a human. She was traumatized. It's hard to watch performances from that era, you can just tell she would rather be anywhere but there.

100%. It's pretty sad that she just kept doing it because she felt there was no other option. I'm glad she's in a better place now and it's cool to think her next project, whenever that may be, will be a genuine continuation of Blackout in terms of having full creative control, free of the conservatorship constraints. Makes you wonder if she'll write/sing about it. Or if we'll get a super zany, creative record that's more in line with the Mmm Papi and How I Rolls.

You know what? I don't think she will release any music anytime soon.

She needs some rest, live her live and do whatever she wants in order to be healthy and happy.
She was very commited to her project back in the day and I can't wait for her to be at 100% doing what she loves. After I heard the leaked audio she sounded very in charge and I love that.

I can wait and I think everyone can wait until she decides what she wants to do after years and years of being trapped and abused.

I don't think she will either but later down the line is what I'm referring to. I don't believe she will quit music altogether.

I think she's going to make something...we'll have a new single after conservatorship to say thanks to her fans, for what we did for her then I think she'll retire but at the same time I don't know if she will ever retire...this should be the right moment to retire...but I don't know.
My thought about it are complicated to express is English (I'm italian).
