Title: Avril Lavigne 'What The Hell' Synth
Post by: growapear on April 19, 2013, 02:15:14 PM
I've always loved the intro synth on this track and have recently been working on a track where I think a similar sound would fit in really good.

Anyone have any ideas on how to get that sound?! Kind of like an organ actually...

Thanks!

Yeah definitely a specific organ sound with some distortion. Having said that, check out this instrumental remake on YouTube...

It's pretty terrible, but notice the uploader mentions they used a "Clavi" sound for the intro. It actually sounds like they're halfway there, especially if you imagine it with fully played chords. A Clavi is usually more of a piano/harpsichord type sound, but maybe there is a patch out there somewhere that's a cross between a Clavi and an organ...?

You're right, the synth sound that person has is in the right direction. The beginning sounds like it's lacking a little of the 'brightness' of the original, but like you said it could just be from the lack of higher notes in the chord being played. Thanks for the link and input !

There is a preset on the Yamaha Motif which sounds exactly the same. Looks like they tweaked and cutted it.
