Well, people everywhere can do whatever they want to, but music consumption at the time is not based on platforms ownes by big companies.

Now, more than ever, internet is the revolution.
And record companies don't know what the hell to do with it, they lost the power and influence they had for many decades.

A simple example: some of the songs/albums/artists with the biggest numbers do not chart at the Billboard Hot 100, which is supposed to be the most important music chart worldwide.

And these songs are not in english: these numbers are from artists from Korea and Colombia.
