new album, new thread.
Bring on the Max songs.

Is max confirmed ?
-
I hope so, or max will lose probably his only chance for having a N1 this year.
-
She reinvented herself, and she did it impressively right. It grew on me, but it's not what I expected, I don't think anyone could expect something like this. I want to know who made this.

i believe Jack Antonoff
-
Richard Fairbrass
Jack Antonoff
Rob Manzoli
Fred Fairbrass
Taylor Swift
-
I like the sounds, the production but hey, that is a first single for the biggest pop artist right now? Come on.
-
Liked the song on the first listen.
I think, she also wants to perceived to be "edgy" like katy perry with her last album.
But in contrast this song is not wired, but incorporates horror elements mixed with elegance and coolness.
It's still a risky move. I don't think this will be played as often on the radio as her last hits, since it doesn't fit in the happy cheerful songs category. Also she could lose a lot of her old fans of heartfelt love songs over this, but maybe she has some songs for them, too.
-
Dont like it at all...
-
I like some of the lyrics but somehow a good hook is missing. Right Said Fred are lucky guys with these royalties that are coming up.
-
LOVE this song! Even as a huge fan of "old taylor" I love everything she touches. This song is incredible.
-
Not really feeling it.
Is Max involved? I hope so.
-
really like that song after the second listen
brilliant tune to freak out to in the bathroom :D
-
It's forgettable to me. I like it when I hear it, but as soon as it's over, I can't remember it.
Yes, lucky Right Said Fred! good for them.
-
I wonder: where's the interpolation or the sample or whatever it is?
-
The way she says the chorus. This is sad, we reach the point where everything could be a sample since the atrocity of Pharrell and Marvin Gaye.

Could be by Max.

Tidal says it's Max, Ali, and Shellback. Knew it as soon as I heard the "let the games begin" hook.
-

Sadly no producer credits. But the melody is very Maxish.
-
Love the sound design.
It could be Ali on the boards, the distorted synths sounds like him...
-
Only heard it once but first reaction is that I don't like it.
-
max martin did it again with are fo it. i like this song GOOD JOB MAX MARTIN!!!
-
Love the sound design.

Confirmed: Max, Ali, Shellback, Taylor.
-
Confirmed: Max, Ali, Shellback, Taylor.
Producers?
According to wikipedia produced by: Martin, Shellback, Payami
-
Ready For It should have been the 1st single.
-
But I have a feeling that Taylor really wanted to have this style and sound so can't totally blame Max and team for this shitty song.
-
I don't hate it, but I feel it's getting harder to like a song at first glance, specially when you're trying really hard to be edgy.
-
I like RFI way better than the first song from "Reputation"
The chorus is really catchy.
-
I'm starting to get into Ready For It.
Love the sound design and the topline, the only thing I don't like is the chorus.
The bridge is the strongest part.
Baby, let the games begin ::)
-
The chorus is very reminiscent to a 1989, the old taylor didn't die... entirely.
-
Interesting about Swift is also her new ticket selling approach. Fans have to outcompete each other in buying albums (up to 13 times), buying merch and in watching her music videos 5 times each day, if they want tickets for her show. Her fanbase is large enough so that could really screw typical metrics and help in dismanteling old records. I guess she actually has a chance at taking adeles record of selling 3.38mil album copies in the first week, even when most of her fans are young and likely don't listen to CDs any more.

The drums are quite annoying on RFI.
And I see no connection between verse and chorus, sounds like two independent parts.
Maty Noyes has a new song out, called Say It To My Face. This should've been produced by Max & Ali and then sung by Taylor and we would have a perfect Reputation single.

Nice point.

Nice point.
Which one exactly?
-

That.
I like the drums, they do not disturb the rest of the sounds but they're not special either...
-
In the meantime I fell in love with both singles, probably preferring LWYMMD.

Sounds slightly something like 'Timbaland involved.'
Though..not saying that some of the stuff used anyway isn't all around iconic.
But that's a bomb.

Call It What You Want To.
My favorite offering from Taylor and Max.
-
It's by Jack Antonoff (source tidal)
-
Ok that is basically the nicely done classic taylor love song. Curious if it will make the top ten. Her old fans are going to love this.
The two max songs did kinda flop in my opinion. Dont know what they planed but they probably should have left a bigger impact.
-
I like it.
It's not a hit song, but it's really good.
-
For the ones that loved Taylor country tunes, Kelsea Ballerini is doing some great songs, filling the space Taylor left going into the pop route.
This one specially it's self written.

No Streaming of the album for the first week.
Is she trying to break the record for most physicals sales in the first week or what?
Seems like only the best of the best worked on that album. The economically most successful artist of our time, with the most successful producers (apart form luke) and also the best mixing. What could go wrong ;).

-
At last Max and Jack could sound a little bit generic, but overall it's a good album that kinda suits the creative turn taylor took, more electronic, so much more autotune, edgier but not as much as witness. I don't think Max could earn a N1 from here but it's predicted to sell around a million copies in its first week in US, just like 1989.
-
The album leaked.
Where is Ali?
I kind of like two songs.
-
Dancing with our hands tied - I love that song, It would be my choice for a next single.
-
Max now officially co wrote a song with every wolf cousins member. OzGo being the latest.
-
GUYS CAN WE START DISCUSSING ABOUT "I DID SOMETHING BAD" PLEASE? Max & Shellback just gave me 8 reasons to be thankful this coming thanksgiving (sorry/not sorry but gorgeous is just ew)
-
By the way, does anyone know who Oscar Görres is? Ive never heard of him before

You are not paying enough attention over here if you didn't, he's one of the 6 (8 ) main producers of the wolf cousins.

Well... http://lmgtfy.com/?q=Oscar+G%C3%B6rres

I love this album! So far my favourite is Delicate. I love End Game too.

Well not everyone goes through the same posts as you. I was expecting for someone to give a little more background on him, since all wikipedia says are the songs he's worked on.
Does anyone else notice any similarities between "Did Something Bad" and "Sail"?
-
Well not everyone goes through the same posts as you.
He didn't ask me in a post and my point was that Oscar already produced a song with Shellback on the V album of Maroon 5, and that's more than three years ago.
-
And a Wolf Cousins member.
Max Martin related.

Love these videos she's releasing. Delicate is one of my favorites.
-
Dangerous Woman: 7 Max Martin songs, only 1 with Ali Payami. Best song of the album: the one with Ali Payami.
reputation: 9 Max Martin songs, only 1 with Ali Payami. Best song of the album: the one with Ali Payami.
-
I used to think that Ali was the best max collaborator but now I think Oscar Holter Is better. Dancing with our hands tied it's perfection for me.

5 Ali Payami songs and Swish Swish is my favorite :D
-
I don't like the chorus of Hands Tied, the verses are tight.
Oscar Holter did great with Tove Lo on Lady Wood.
Overall, I don't like the album.
-
TIWWCHNT has arguably the catchiest chorus of the album.
I could've sworn DWOHT is an Ali song. Honestly, is there a chance they confused Holter with Ali? The beginning reminds me a lot of Ariana's Touch It.

I don't think so, something about the chords reminded me of True Disaster, not something objective, more like a feeling. And the Outro is very reminiscent to Mitt Team and Bon Appetit.
-
I remembered what this line they are creating in in the studio video reminds me:
When I first saw you

Reputation: Karaoke is out today.
That means the Reputation instrumentals are officially out.
-
Again 75% of her voice left on a track. Just like last album karaoke.
BG voices, to be exact.
You're a complainer :o
-
It's really bad compared to any other instrumentals. There's little left to the imagination when you have all the background vocals, which are a lot.
-
Both of you ;D
-
https://soundcloud.com/user-617854092/taylor-swift-ready-for-it-instrumental
When I looked all the other instrumentals shared in this forum I was expecting something like that, it's a shame I can't find it in good quality, it's very different without any kind of vocal arrangement.
And others like Dancing with our hands tied it's basically the same song.

http://www.idolator.com/7688497/taylor-swift-new-deal-universal-music-group?view-all
https://www.usatoday.com/story/life/music/2018/11/19/taylor-swift-signs-new-record-deal-lobbies-higher-pay-others/2054412002/
Taylor signed with Republic and UMG.
"As part of my new contract with Universal Music Group, I asked that any sale of their Spotify shares result in a distribution of money to their artists, non-recoupable," she wrote. "They have generously agreed to this, at what they believe will be much better terms than paid out previously by other major labels. I see this as a sign that we are headed towards positive changes for creators – a goal I'm never going to stop trying to help achieve, in whatever ways I can."
This isn't the first time Swift has gone to bat for artists against streaming services. She previously pulled her albums from Apple Music in 2015 to protest Apple's decision to forego paying artists during a free three-month trial of the service.
Smart move. Props to Taylor.
-
She left the label that her father owns?
And, don't artists overestimate the streaming income? Spotify lives on google adsense and adsense income is a dollar for 1000 views in the richest parts of the world. 100 000 views = 100 dollars. Not of big help for new artists, but big difference for Taylor herself and for her already rich and famous friends.
I want to be so naive to believe that TS cares about others.
-
That is weird!
I cant believe Big Machine would not have given her everything UMG promised her. She already got everything (played the biggest venues, no 1s, made more money than every other artist for many years) while being with them. Maybe family conflicts? Or has UMG really something special to offer for her?
The quoted part of the deal has nothing to do with streaming income, as i understand it, it only means if UMG sells their Spotify stock on 'wall street' their artists will get some of the money. This probably means UMG will hold their Spotify shares longer. Good for Spotify?! I think this is manly a small publicity bonus for Taylor.
-
Well, Big Machine is UMG. And their roster is small, 20 artists or so.
So basically, it's the same thing... with different name.
About the royalties and stuff, she put her catalogue out of Apple Music in order to gain what she wanted, which was a smart move at the time. But I agree with you guys, looks like a publicity stunt.

Taylor Swift Is Finally Counting Down to New Music. Here's What to Know
Hopefully it will be out this friday.
-
Family has been registered for over a year now. It's a little bit unlikely to be the first single.
-
https://www.billboard.com/articles/news/8508832/taylor-swift-announces-new-single-me-brendon-urie?utm_source=facebook&utm_medium=social&fbclid=IwAR3Bf20iitz0kyCMtse0W9B3wqv68jWmyshQWtr0PcSD40UGyd66C1vaKTY
New single ME, featuring Brendon Urie, out in two hours.
-
I found her first single to be kinda weak... I wonder if she's still gonna be able to pull those massive first-week sales she usually does
-
I think this will do well. It's cute, uplifting, in the vein of Shake It Off, and has that Taylor charm and quirkiness.
-
Produced by Joel Little.
Mix Engineer: John Hanes, Serban Ghenea
I like how the HUGE difference between power and techniques of Brendon and Taylor vocals is neutralized so smoothly.
I don't want to press repeat. The song is simply bad.
-
Wow i could only watch half of the music video. It seems to me so fake and wrong. Lyrics and Video seem for me to be made by a naive 14 year old, not a savvy 30 year old multi-millionaire, superstar and buisnesswoman.
-
I think she tried a little bit too hard to go from the edginess of reputation to bubblegum pop, but on a higher lever than any of her previous albums, it's weird. Just like Avril Lavigne when she did Hello Kitty, but less racist.
-
Not a Joel Little fan, but this sounds good considering his previous work.
Love the drum programming and that's it.
-

Scott Borchetta sold Big Machine to Scooter Braun. Now he owns all the Taylor Swift masters.
She wrote a Tumblr entry complaining about the deal. Everyone's giving their impressions about it.
Hopefully something will happen after this.
-
So... People who know Scooter are on his side, people who don't are touched by Taylor's words.
Everything comes down to fact checks, they know their truth, we don't.
In theory artists should be allowed to own their masters, but if Scott in his statement was telling the truth then Taylor's words are completely discredited.
-
In theory artists should be allowed to own their masters, but if Scott in his statement was telling the truth then Taylor's words are completely discredited.
Some years ago, it was almost impossible to own your own master recordings because you needed a big amount of money to get these records done.
Nowaways, it's not like that, but when you're an unsigned artist and get your deals with no guidance you do mistakes like this, just like Kesha and her 8 album contract.
And for example, why do you see the names of a-list artists on their records when they get their songs through publishers or A&R's or writing camps?
Industry standards have to change.
-
Bob Lefsetz wrote insiders say she knew everything but didn’t want to pay for masters at all (https://lefsetz.com/wordpress/2019/07/02/passman-stands-up-for-swift/) that's why she left the label for a worse label with a worse contract (https://lefsetz.com/wordpress/2019/06/30/taylor-swift-scooter-braun/) and now she's mad at herself. And it's all because she has no college education (https://lefsetz.com/wordpress/2019/07/01/borchetta-responds/).

Scott Borchetta was head of Big Machine and she was her first signing.
I absolutely agree about ALWAYS having close people who you trust but publishing deals is another topic, way more complicated.
I agree about the emotional connection to your own songs but, do a contract take your songs from you? If a big company invest in your career, I agree about getting your money back and a bit more, but these contracts are abusive. Industry standards are abusive.

Taylor's will re-record her catalogue in order to own her masters.
JoJo did the same thing after years of negotiations with Blackground records about her two first albums, same with Toni Braxton's Libra.

There were rumours about re-recording and she confirmed she will do it.
That's all.

When I heard The Man and Miss Americana & The Heartbreak Prince I thought Max Martin made it to the album after all. These are the stand-outs in my opinion.
Paper Rings is also very well crafted and super catchy.

Taylor did a NPR Tiny Desk Concert.
She talked about the songs and performed acoustically, closely to how she wrote those.
Love it. Smart girl.
-
From comments:
Coming from a linguistic perspective, it sounds like she's "uptalking" in her melodies, a linguistic phenomenon which is typical for her demographic. Perhaps an interesting example of the language-music connection.

-
Yep. Absolutely agree. All the same.
After the Tiny Desk I was thinking about the production choices and Taylor doing the same all over and over and over and over again.
The Man could have been "How To Get The Girl" from 1989, basically. A rewrite.
Basically that's the importance of the producers and collaborators: the sound.

When I heard Willow the first time I thought it was a pretty pop song but with a different approach to the arrangements.
And this remix proves the importance of arrangement and production.
