New single:
Avril Lavigne - Here's To Never Growing Up

No Max - so what do you think??
Thank you, Turnaround......well, since you asked, I have to say I think that is a really great song :-D I listened to it completely open minded -- no idea who wrote it, who produced it, and I still don't, and don't even wanna know -- but I played it twice through and liked it even better on the second time......something about it has real emotion to it, and it's a great sound!!!
I really loved her last album, but working with Max was probably just a one off for her. Still, if someone told me Luke produced this new track I'd believe it, I wonder who it is. I quite like it, it's typical Avril, and like georg_e, I think it gets better with every listen... a bit of a grower. It's probably a smart move not bringing out another Girlfriend/What The Hell for the lead single again.
Some people say it's very Taylor Swift/Max :D
I like this song too, I agree, it's definitely a grower. I hope it does well.

I think WE as songwriters and producers should start calling out all the dumb fucks in the "music biz" that don't know SHIT about music
The songs written by Max and Shellback with Avril for her album "Goodbye Lullaby" weren't bad in my opinion. But not really "hits". I can't even hum the melodies.
In comparison to "My life would suck without you" or the P!nk songs they couldn't convince me.
It's a great song!

It's those hip hop drum samples mixed with acoustic guitar!
Hehe, the funny thing is, that I guess many people thought that Taylor sounded like Avril when she released her Max singles. Now it's the other way round.
Heh, that is true. I was one of those who said that the Tylor song sounded like Avril. Still have to check out Avril's new track though.

I think I appreciated them even more for not trying to be anything else. They ended up far more pop than I expected for an Avril album, but I really think Max and Shellback got it right. Smile was my second favourite song of 2011 (second only to "Dancing Crazy" which I assume was originally written for that album anyway). The melodies just really hit the spot for me. Plus the two ballads totally surprised me, I wish they'd write more tracks like that.
I fully agree. Smile was a killer song, and I will be eternally disappointed that this particular song didn't do well on the charts.

I like it! Avril in her own right is a good songwriter I think, doesn't matter who she works with, a lot of her songs turn out to be perfect pieces of pop.
Not confirmed yet but by rumours Max and Shellback are back to produce another song for Avril - "Rock N Roll" written by Chad Kroeger, Rickard Goransson, Avril Lavigne, David Hodges, Jacob Hindlin and Peter Svensson.
Here's to never growing up wasn't all all that successful, am I right? Even though I thought this was about as close as you can get to "Complicated" :-)
Weird, maybe same phenomenon as BSB. Pretty radio friendly track but no big impact in the charts.
Avril Lavigne is not relevant anymore in the charts, same thing for BSB. Just look at her, she's close to 30 and still dressing like a 15 year old.
That said, she's a very good songwriter, but in the pop world, it's not only about songs...besides for people like us.

it doesn't sound quite like a Max Martin production... not clean enough. but that chorus! so soaring and classic Avril.

Awesome chorus, the chords and melody are both brilliant! I have a real soft spot for Avril, she knows what it is to make good old fashioned hooky pop/rock. So happy she worked with Max again, though I'm surprised he didn't write on this chorus.
The fact that Peter Svensson is involved in the songwriting explains why it reminds me (somehow) Rock Me by One Direction.

you know him personally? I think I know what a Max production sounds like - but there are other producers who have a similar style - case in point, all of his Swedish writers and producers. You don't think they learned from him?
Bonnie McKee's "American Girl" could be Dr. Luke. Everyone thought it was. HTNGU could've been a Dr. Luke song, but it wasn't.
so we'll just wait and see who the listed producer is. Not once during her recording of the album did she mention Max Martin. if anything, he probably came in later (if he in fact co-produced the song) and tweaked some stuff.

I love this song. Funny thing is that many months ago I listened to a lot of Nickelback and thought of how Chad Kroeger is truly a genius songwriter and the canadian equivalent of Max Martin. And then I thought to myself: "Imagine if Max Martin and Chad Kroeger wrote a song together. It would be a match made in heaven because they have the same approach to songwriting."
Few months pass by, Avril Lavigne gets engaged with Chad Kroeger and they collab with Max Martin. Oh and Peter Svensson too? Awesomeness.
Supersong!!! Love it!!!!!!
I adore this song! I can't stop listening to it. fantastic.
I was disappointed initially but then have got it. That chorus is probably the most amazing thing since The Best Damn Thing album.

Yep that's him! I'm guessing Max and some of the guys from The Cardigans are quite good friends. They got him into using old analogue audio gear back in the early Maratone days. He even ending up swapping out his huge digital desk for an analogue one.
Peter Svensson is amazing! I love many of his songs at the moment - Rock n Roll obviously, plus Vicci Martinez's "Come Along" and Emblem3's "Chloe..."
I didn't realise The Cardigans were still together, it would be great to see them in concert.

Chad Kroeger is the canadian version of Max Martin. You can hate Nickelback all you want, but his melodies are effin' amazing. Only thing about "Let me go" is that it sounds too much like a Nickelback song.
The chord progression is cool, I love the "Epic and haunting" vibe.
Released in Germany - and I'm really into this. It's very poppy, reminds me of the old Avril from her debut. I guess this was her intention.
Will try to do a rating later. But first impression is very good.
Both Germany and Australia got the release today, I was so tempted to grab it but was short on cash and went for Katy instead. I trust your instincts on it though so I'll pick it up next week.
I'm not really feeling it, though.
I'd like her to try a more alternative and edgier sound, it's too pop and it's playing safe.
Or even making songs with the same people as always: Luke, Max Martin and try something with Butch Walker or Greg Kurstin.
I think her music is fine, but her persona just doesn't click anymore with the mainstream audience. She has slowly become irrelevant.

I think you're right, she's the chick with attitude and it's just not what the current generation are going for. She seems fully aware of it though, given the lyrics of "Rock N Roll". Maybe her time will come back around.

She's lost a certain quality to her voice... what happened?
Tell me it's over really grew on me.
The one thing that's outstanding to me is the last chorus, just before it starts seems like it's going to change the key but it doesn't, it's just as powerful without the awfulness of forcing her vocals being higher, and the only thing that's being added are some vocals on top. Very nice work from Johan.
I like this, definitely Bonnie vibes but it works for Avril. I'd love to hear Avril do something like American Girl or S.L.A.Y. A return to form...
Album is out tomorrow.
I listened to it: I didn't like it. Guitars and 808s, drum programming... not my cup of tea.
Nothing special, everyone is doing pretty much something like this.
This album would be so much better if it was all produced by The Matrix or Butch Walker like the old days. It's in the middle between bubblegum pop and teen punk and it's not either of those at the same time, such a mess.
