Title: Britney Spears - Britney Jean - new era (Work b*tch, Perfume, Passenger)
Post by: turnaround on August 20, 2013, 05:06:17 PM
New era, new thread.

Sia tweeted about the amazing vocals on their track:

http://britneyindonesia.tumblr.com/post/58785824000/sia-praises-britney-outstanding-vocal-on-new-track

And on the Britney site there is a countdown.

http://www.britneyspears.com

Exciting. :D

What do you expect will be announced? New single/song/Las Vegas show? etc?

Yes, but have not received any mails yet.
I get enough spam and stuff, so I guess it doesn't matter if I get one more mail or not.  ???

I'm expecting big things for this album. And by big things, I mean the new sound of pop music.

I'm not expecting anything from this album since, as I heard, Will .I.Am is the executive producers.. god how I hate him!

I hope Max and Luke have something in there!

Wasn't that just a rumor based on the fact that she said she was working with Will.I.Am on the new album?

I heard the Exec. producers would be Luke and Darkchild

Back when Darkchild was working on "Telephone", he mentioned that he was going to do something new and huge for Britney, but I guess that didn't eventuate. I'd love if he was working on this album though.

Actually someone told me that Will. I. Am is is in charge now. Initially it was going to be Darkchild, but they changed their minds. The album is gonna have more urban stuff like trap music. It still gonna be pop though.

it's been confirmed that will.i.am is exec producing. but she's working with other producers so it's not gonna be one big will.i.am fest.

I disagree, if done rightly, it has potential. I'm pretty sure it'll still sound pop and not the whole album is gonna sound like that :)

I did actually like the pop songs of "Willpower" very much (especially "Far Away From Home" feat. Scherzinger), but "Work b*tch"... c'mon seriously??!??!  :o

I was streaming a Danish radio today when this randomly came on... it was the last thing I expected to hear. All I could think was "Scream & Shout" part 2, maybe slightly less annoying. I reckon it'll be huge, it has all the right ingredients (considering what people are buying). Personally, I'll probably never listen to it again unless it's out of my control!

I was confused about this too......but if you look at Dr. Luke's Twitter, he says to a fan he only did one song on there, and it's "kinda" about her kids, so this is a different song entirely he did. (The lyrics to "Perfume" are definitely not about kids) :D

And so it's not that personal sounding as it should.

I don't think it's THAT awesome as all the hype around it, but her vocals sound good, just like the Baby One More Time or Oops era.

I guess this is how will.I.am is killing her career. The single is not even on the iTunes top 10.

Let's keep the faith for the Dr. Luke/Sia thing.

dr.luke needs to save her career. she cant be the next taylor swift or katy perry so she needs her own sound. now... her latest songs is soo autotune.. i guess thats what people like

but its not pure pop anymore..

His producer name is A.C, which stands for Alex Castillo. He's done mainly releases for independent artists and a few signed acts, but you'll hear more from him in the near future. Yelle, Elliphant, Britney and Foxes among others.

He did the production on Magik 2.0 by Becky G and Austin Mahone.

He's the guy with the black jacket and glasses.

this album is gonna be special, no matter if she promotes or not, she is creating art right here. This song is a very good example of a women who is not a 16 year old girl in a schoolgirl uniform, but someone who is mature and ready to open up to a world she is still not comfortable with, i give her MAJOR credit!

Exactly. Love this refrain, it's so full with all those vocals. Can imagine an audience shouting/singing it together at her show. It's so sweet and delightful...

so melodic and airy and just uplifting. The production is clean. Better than Perfume.

I'd wait till I hear the full album to give further criticism, but on the surface, the songwriting is average, her vocals sound amateurish in some places and the production, mainly the dance songs, sound way too generic. Same tired sounds over and over, just like Will.I.Am's music (and EDM music).

IMO it's a step back from "Femme Fatale" which, at the time it came out, sounded more sonically daring and original than this one right now.

Who the hell told will.i.am to exec. produce and A&R the album?
I mean, after Max Martin and Luke doing the same job on Femme Fatale, I was sure from the first moment this would be a big fiasco.

I just can't with it. Even her voice sounds different, like... too nasal, like a gimmick of herself.
The vocal production is awful and like everyone said, the music sounds dated and uninteresting.

She's in the point where she can do ANYTHING in her career and I'm pretty sure, she always have been very interested in trends and stuff. There's a lot of talented people interested in write and produce for her.

This is will.i.am's fault: he A&R'd and was the head of this big piece of S***.

"Now That I Found You" is quite poppy. And with more listens it gets very catchy. Needless to say I would have prefered Luke over will.i.am as a executive producers.

Katy Perry's "Passenger" could grow with more listens. Not that fond yet.

Brightest Morning Star is the best. The production is good, it's actually her vocals in the verses, powerful chorus, and nice ending chorus.

Second best is Alien, but the leaked version is better without all that retarded vocal modulation. Why did they fuck with the melody? Also has a nice ambient, repetitive vibe and the lyrics really hit at something the most relevant to Britney.

Perfume is the third best since it's her singing the whole time and she actually gives it her all it seems.

the Kool Kojak song's got a killer melody and kind of an epic chorus but I feel like (and same goes for several other album tracks) they used her demo vocals and didn't get a good performance out of her. You can obviously tell the lead vocals are spliced with the studio singer - that's what kills this album the most for me. On that song, Passenger, Work b*tch, Body Ache (is that even her?), Tik Tik Boom, they fucking flat out use another singer cut into her singing. And when she IS actually singing, it sounds so lifeless. Idk what - either the producers didn't get a good performance outta her or she just didn't' care to sing the songs well enough.

Til It's Gone and even It Should Be Easy are kinda good - Chillin' With You has potential but again, poor studio techniques. They just copy and paste her verses and chorus one after another. Where are those classic Britney ad-libs? The ones at the end of Body Ache are fake as shit. Completely and offensively not britney singing those and it's amazing how the engineers think they're tricking the audience. Didn't Britney put in time recording? Why didn't she just sing the parts right? If they felt like they couldn't use her parts she obvs didn't sound good.

FF is so pristine compared to BJ. Flawless, sleek, next-level production and she sings every song like she means it. Inside Out is chillingly good (it already was) and classic and I really am savoring that album even moreso after listening to Britney Jean. Dr. Luke needs to be on the next album. And Kool Kojak. No personal bullshit. Just pop smashes

did you analyze the album?.. lol OK

what about the other songs with will i am. i played this album for my mom she liked it. one thing i dont like is that some songs are not good enough. also please stop mixing dubstep with pop. it just dont fit in anymore. till its gone sounds good in the beginning. dr luke said once repetition works. they repeat alot of her vocals which in my opinion is kinda good. overall this album gets a score of 7 out of 10 from me.

but yeah... her voice..

I agree with you in every single point.
I think that the autotune abuse is will.i.am's fault.
And who A&R'd this?

Shame on them.

The production is mediocre, same for the songwriting and this time around she did most of the vocals.

Las Vegas show premiered:

Setlist:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Britney:_Piece_of_Me

"Work b*tch"
"Womanizer"
"3"
"Video Sequence"
"Everytime"
"...Baby One More Time" / "Oops!... I Did It Again"
"Video Sequence"
"Me Against the Music"
"Gimme More" / "Break the Ice" / "Piece of Me"
"Video Sequence" (contains elements of "Scream & Shout")
"Boys" (contains elements of The Co-Ed Remix)
"Perfume"
"Dance Sequence" (contains elements of "Get Naked (I Got a Plan)")
"I'm a Slave 4 U"
"Freakshow"
"Do Somethin'"
"Dance Sequence"
"Circus"
"I Wanna Go"
"Lucky"
"Toxic"
"Stronger" / "(You Drive Me) Crazy" (contains elements of The Stop! Remix)
Encore
"Till the World Ends" (contains elements of "Work b*tch")

What essential songs do you think are missing? I hope the Cheiron songs are very close to the original and not swing/funk etc. I hated it when Westlife performed their songs so different from the original live.

The setlist is pretty good, much better than I thought it would be. It's missing "Hold It Against Me", I really thought that would be there as it was a big hit.
I'm disappointed that "Baby One More Time" and 'Ooop..." are a medley, hopefully she didn't cut each song in half.
I'm glad she included "Stronger/You Drive Me Crazy" even if it's just a medley. Fantastic "Lucky" and "I Wanna Go" is included.

I wonder why she included "Do Something"? it's a terrible song and not a hit. and why include "Freakshow"? not a hit and only an average song. She should replace them with "Hold It Against Me" and "Me Against The Music"

but overall, a good setlist.

Yes, absolutely thinking the same as you Rebecca. Odd choices here and then. And hopefully it's not just a bit of the chorus and that's it of BOMT and OIDA. They are Britney's signature songs and they deserve to be played in full length, every note.

glad you like it!! but is it a fan favourite overall? Britney has so many other great songs, but hopefully as it's a long run in Vegas, Britney will change the set list here and there so the same fans will go back.
I'm looking forward to seeing some youtube clicks so we can confirm the length of BOMT and OIDA.

I watched I am Britney Jean doco as well, I thought it was very entertaining. Britney seems really nice and almost normal for someone in her position. She learns dance moves fast too! I loved seeing Larry Rudolf as well. I'm sad I'm not going to Vegas, it looks like a great show.

This album was ruled by politics in the industry and Britney's friendship with Will.I.Am who had no idea what he was doing. It's truly a disastrous follow up to Femme Fatale.

Years ago she was really commited to her music -like Blackout or In The Zone- but nowadays, I just don't understand...
Britney was something like a game changer back then...

I think it's mostly the people that surround her that influence her creative vision. She's always been known to choose very well who she works with, but giving creative freedom to the people around her. This time around it was just her really happy with how Will.I.Am and her got along and she gave him the reigns of the project which was obviously a very bad idea.

But yeah, that's how it works in the pop industry nowadays. Some people work with other people because of really mundane reasons that don't have anything to do with the music itself.

The lack of Max Martin is obvious in this album. Only Brightest Morning Star (prod. by Dr. Luke), Passenger (prod. by Sia, Katy Perry and Diplo) and Alien (prod. by William Orbit) is good and unfortunately there were not singles. They are good because they are the only songs that were not produced by will.i.am except for Hold on Tight.

All of the will.i.am songs in the album are terrible.

Britney needs Max Martin. Britney Jeans and Pretty Girls (or Pretty Flops  ;D) proved that.

she needs to quit singing, she's so untalented. Max should start working with Jessica Folker again and make her the new fame.
