Ariana's new single "No Tears Left To Cry" is supposedly coming out this Thursday or Friday. She was spotted wearing a sweater with the song title on it displayed upside down, and Ilya posted a picture wearing the same sweater (https://www.instagram.com/p/Bhhjs3MBTrT/). She posted on Instagram with the teardrop emoji and a bunch of people have done the same, including her mother, her manager, and Savan (https://twitter.com/savan_kotecha/status/986336579512758273?s=21). Judging from the two of them more than likely being involved I think it's safe to say Max will be involved as well!
Looks like AG4 is coming fast and furious 🙌🙌
Think Pharrell also involved in the song.
ASCAP and Warner don't have this title yet.
QuoteAriana used a tear and raincloud emojis in one of her Insta-stories to caption an in-studio photo with Pharrell. It's also worth mentioning there's a Meghan Trainor demo of a song titled "No Tears Left To Cry" floating around
Quote from: melodicmoonlight on April 18, 2018, 05:04:49 AM
Think Pharrell also involved in the song.
Billboard said both are part of her upcoming album, not part of the same song, Pharrell never worked with anyone from Sweden and I doubt that's about to change.( And now I'm in doubt while writing this, but if anyone know any song that proves me wrong I listen.)
Ilya and savan with Ariana, should we expect something different from last album? I hope they step up and bring someone new to their sessions like Alexander Kronlund. Or more songs with Ali.
'No Tears Left To Cry' may well be the first glimpse of a new album from Ariana Grande. As Variety reported earlier this month, the follow-up to 2016's 'Dangerous Woman' is rumoured to feature collaborations with Max Martin, Savan Kotecha and Pharrell Williams.

The song is out.
Written by Ariana Grande, Max Martin, Ilya Salmanzadeh & Savan Kotecha.
Not feeling it at all.
I like the vibe, sounds a little bit rushed, it lacks energy.
The chorus sounds very reminiscent to chained to the rhythm.
I hope her context due to what happened last year boost her charts.
Wow, definitely wasn't thinking it was produced by Max/Ilya. The vocal editing in the beginning is sloppy- you can clearly tell where they split and joined different takes. The vibe of the song as a whole is awesome though. Love the celestial/90's Euro pop vibe, some cheesy pop house vibes. I wonder why it's not as polished as the songs on Dangerous Woman. Production wise and vocals especially...
Heavy Max involvment.
Composer, Lyricist, Producer, Keyboard, Drums, Bass, Percussion
Masterpiece
I love the production and melody......Thought it was pretty cool how they put those same vocal improves from "Into You" and "Break Free" in the 3rd Chorus. Really liked the way the synth was side chained when the drum loop came in before the verse.....and those bells/chimes in the 3rd Chorus are pretty nice as well.
I like the snares and the plucks in the chorus.
Another top 10 in the billboard hot 100 for Max as No Tears Left To cry debuted at #3

And that's all apparently. Ariana revealed last night that she worked with Pharrell, Max, Ilya and Savan, and then she stopped counting. We get an even smaller list of collaborators than last album.

I think Max is executive producer. Maybe we get our first Pharrell and Max collaboration.
This 'melodic math' thing has become all math and no music creativity.

The other half of the album was produced by the most trusted and scientific hitmaker in pop, Max Martin. This is a lot of the work that Ariana produced after Manchester, and she says she got the songwriting bug this time around. It's a bit of a cliché to say that an artist's new album is their most personal album yet, but for Ariana it's really true.
A few weeks after our interview, Ariana posted to her Instagram story that she decided to add five tracks to her album, bringing the total tracklist up to 15 songs. We hopped on the phone to talk about the last-minute creative push, and Ariana seems even happier and more energized than before.
After recently reaching an "emotional rock bottom," she revisited some of the songs she had decided to initially cut. The additions are three more from the Pharrell sessions, one from the Max camp, and one with her close past collaborator producer Tommy Brown.

How much I hate it when every word is written in majuscules or minuscules.
So you will hate the Meghan album too.
And you probably hate Ne-Yo's album too.
Loooool, you're right (and THE CARTERS' album ...), there's even a PARTYNEXTDOOR feature on Ne-Yo's album, hilarious! But there might be still some good music behind those titles.

Savan posted the other on instagram about being challeged creatively in this album for the second time in his life.
Sounds a bit like getting stuck.
None of the guys from the Cousins have evolved very much their sound.
And I think this is the same thing that happened to Max after 2001. Urban latin and trap is what's trending now.
For example: Kyle Shearer and Nate Campany co wrote Sin Pijama by Becky G. Had some sessions with respected latin writers. They know what's happening and where to go.
It would be great if Max would have a REAL challenge, doing something he's never done before.
For example, there's great producers at the moment but the future trends are clear to me: Rihanna's last record set the trend to caribbean sounding tracks. Her new record is dancehall. She did some stuff with London based producers Banx & Ranx, which mix caribbean sounds, Nigerian stuff and american production. They're from Canada. Check them, they signed with Syco a couple months ago.
Plus, there's some great stuff happening with Baile funk in Brazil, which is from the favelas in Rio. After Bum Bum Tam Tam, Anitta's Vai Malandra and the new heavily baile funk infused latest release by Juan Magan, I think that's other trend.
Also we have Tainy, from Puerto Rico, he co produced 10 songs on J Balvin's new album along Sky, J Balvin's former producer. He's the next thing.
He co produced I Like It by Cardi B, which is latin stuff mixed with trap. He mixes anything latin with modern production: funk carioca, trap, flamenco, reggae, dancehall, reggaeton, cumbia, champetas and vallenatos from Colombia, etc.
The thing is: the sounding evolves. But the most important thing is music and lyrics.
Max is not the best at writing lyrics, but he knows what he's good at and looks for people to help him.
I think about the need to think outside the box. Stop playing safe.
That's why I don't like Ariana's record. I heard this before many times. If you want to copy something, do it with a twist.
Ariana is so distant from latina world. I bet she will never release nothing tropical and so on.

No way that a girl with the same hairdo for the last 6 years feels the need to try something new in a studio.
I guess this is happening when a vocalist got too much "creative control" over songwriting. She wants to show off, do aahs, runs and belts.
Her relevance was extended for one more album thanks to Manchester, which is sad because music stepped into a secondary role. There wouldn't be a chance for an artist to have to many top 10 doing something similar over and over.

She did an interview with Zach Sang.

Some interesting things she brought up were that God is a woman was offered to other artists first and Wolf Cousins originally wanted the song to have a rapper. One of the artists was Camila, a snippet of her demo: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ULwvGgm2XVM
She also talks about a song they offered her called Single which was recently registered with Demi so I guess she's the one who ended up recording it.

I don't, I just wanted to point out something I've noticed, and I've noticed something similar in the solo of Rock N Roll by Avril Lavigne.

Yes, indeed that one is, which is why i said "most". Because guitar solos are generally quite like vocal melodies. You improvise over the music. Then you piece the best parts together. Sometimes its pretty close to the improv, sometimes it takes a lot of working out.
Saying that only improvised solos are "real" solos is a big middle finger to most, if not pretty much all (including EVH) of the biggest guitar players. And in the case of a pop production like the others mentioned. Zero chance its a one take improv.
She works very fast, damn. I wonder if she will come back to Max for her next album.

I know that with time and listening to many different songs of the same producer you can figure out who's doing each part (kinda), but credits are a way to reinforce what I'm hearing, and if the credits ain't right I can't confirm that.
The thing with Peter is easier to tell than Max, because I'm under the impression that the topline that Max does it's very similar than all of the Wolf Cousin's members (after all, they kinda took it up from Max initially I think) and now I don't really know when a song is made by Max or if it just channels max's style.

good for her. excited to hear what AG5 will sound like.
*edit: great article, btw. lots of tid-bits about the next record that i bet she'll release around x-mas:
QuoteNow comes the polishing phase and the addition of some tracks with Martin and his team. It was the product of a lot of “feminine energy and champagne and music and laughter and crying. This [album’s] not particularly uplifting,” she says. “A lot of it sounds really upbeat, but it’s actually a super sad chapter.”
The music is defiant -- deep, bass-driven bangers with trap beats alternating with airy, sad ballads -- and aesthetically more adventurous than anything she has ever released. Some of the lyrics are so unambiguously personal and gutting that even if the singer were up for talking about them, most questions would be redundant. But one of the more upbeat tunes, “7 Rings,” has a backstory Grande is happy to discuss.
“It was a... challenging fall day in New York,” she begins, cracking up. “Me and my friends went to Tiffany’s together, just because we needed some retail therapy. You know how when you’re waiting at Tiffany’s they give you lots of champagne? They got us very tipsy, so we bought seven engagement rings, and when I got back to the studio I gave everybody a friendship ring.” She flashes a diamond ring on her right hand; Monét and Parx are wearing them as well. “That’s why we have these, and that’s where the song idea came from.”
She goes to her phone and presses “play,” and a party-ready twist on “My Favorite Things” booms out of the speakers. Grande whispers some asides to her friends, who are bopping along to the song. Then she starts to dance around the room in her bare feet, alone and smiling.
I'm imagining the latter to be similar to Gwen Stefani's "Wind it Up" and then '7 Rings' to be similar to Greedy/Pink Champagne.
Wind it uuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuup! Love that track!
So weird.

Well, watch at her last two #1 records... Into You peaked at #13.

That's what I'm trying to say, Tommy and Victoria did what Ilya, max and savan couldn't do since 2014.

The Making Of Ariana Grande's "thank u, next" With Social House & TBHits | Deconstructed
the album is sweetener 2.0, the same concept without pharrell and more boring, max songs kinda saves the album, but that's saying a lot, those songs feels uninspired too
All credits can be found here:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thank_U,_Next
Max Martin – bass (tracks 4, 6, 8, and 12), drums (tracks 4, 6, and 12), guitar (tracks 4, 6, and 8), keyboards (tracks 4, 6, 8, and 12), string arrangement (track 6)
Max Martin – programming (tracks 4, 6, 8, and 12)
Max Martin – production (tracks 4, 6, 8, and 12), vocal production (track 8)
Sorry to say this but Max started to have no sound, it's just outdated generic basic pop/rnb stuff. Maybe it's time to take some time off or get new music buddies.
Their tracks were recorded in LA with LA-based assistants but have a Swedish orchestra.
I wonder did they recorded strings and trumpets in Stockholm or brought 8 people in the USA...
Bloodline seems to be produced only by Max according to Spotify, this didn't happen since... 2008 pink era?
Bloodline is great. Side to Side's sequel

Remotely: you pay for your arragement and they send you the recorded arrangement :)

Didn't mention much about max. She first wrote ghostin with the team and then finish it with Victoria, it was the hardest song in the album to finish. She didn't give any details about the team or anything related.
Looks very much like she did a lots of songs with her friends and A&R suggested to work with Max.
But also, as Sweetener came not very much ago, they could have use songs from these sessions with Max...
Somehow the critics praise the cohesion of the album and ignore the fact that 7 rings exists, it's het most acclaimed album to date.
Bloodline and Bad Idea grew on me quickly, the strings arrangement in the end are very unique.

A new edition of Ariana's album is out in Japan in June 26th ;)
It's the soundtrack of Charlie's Angels new movie. Apparently Max is involved. New track coming tomorrow featuring Miley Cyrus and Lana del Rey.
Yep, it's not like Ariana approached Lana to be featured hahaha

"There was a two-album period where I was doing half the songs for me and half the songs to solidify my spot in pop music," she acknowledges. "A lot of my singles have been hilariously lacking in substance. You're talking to someone who put 'Side to Side' out as a single. I love that song, but it's just a fun song about sex." I ask her if it ever feels uncomfortable to gaze out at an audience of thousands of nine-year-old girls while singing a song about having so much coitus that it's hard to walk straight. "They're for sure gonna have it. I promise. I promise that your kid's gonna have sex. So if she asks you what the song's about, talk about it."
She didn't answered the question how does she feel it.
And does she talk about a sex addiction with kids?

Ariana Is releasing a new song called Boyfriend on Friday, feels like a new Ilya-Savan, will this be for the deluxe edition?

bad idea being the obvious smash!

My big favourite is In My Head. Love the lyrics and the reverb in "but it was all in my head-hey-yeah-ey".
I don't know why but I think that reverb represents very fairly the mess you have in your head when you're confused.

Lana covered Break Up With Your Girlfriend (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-cHQqXAoHP0) on bbc.
I can't get those 30 seconds that appeared in the trailer out of my head.
Savan said he was excited to be EPing the soundtrack, we may also see more Co writes by him and the team.

Her voice is on point but then I remember it's Lana del rey singing and for me it gets a little awkward.
excellent cover!! love the interpretation and actually suits Lana's coquette-ish music persona perfectly. sounds like there's a proper studio version since the background vocals are recorded.

You told me that on the other thread haha
I'm VERY disappointed with the actual song.
For the last few months I've listened to the snippets of the movie trailer (https://youtu.be/bG3RolKbKCQ) and the song is substantially different from the final release.

Where's the orchestra and the powerful drum arrangement?
I also couldn't hesitate imagining different things happening here like bigger buildups or changing a little the instruments in the outro.

I agree, however I'm not
very disappointed with it.
Obviously it doesn't take too much nowadays to get the title song of a movie.
I don't know what's happening with me but I think everything sounds generic.

Yeah, I'm sick of Ilya's production as of late actually. Obviously it works commercially but I find it so dull.

I think the fans and the people are finding it out. The formula is kinda expired for now.
Nonetheless the vocals works pretty well on the song, I think it's better than other ones.
I also think we have to blame Savan for the dull lyrics, I find it very predictable how he handles the writing to make the lyrics look dumb.
The Adlibs of Ariana in Lana's verse are amazing, I wish they included those in the last chorus too.
I only liked the Lana verse.
