Title: New Song - Collaboration?
Post by: ZachJames on August 21, 2013, 08:16:36 PM
Hey guys,
I just put together this demo of a poppy, feel-good tune. I used the famous Cheiron glockenspiel for some melody that could back up vocals.
Please give me some suggestions, and I would even ask any singers out there to collaborate since I can't really sing lol

I like a lot, reminds me of a lot of good things I love: Frou Frou's Let Go for example.

But I think you can do great things with the song, sounds amazing. Loving the melodies.

so funny to see non-germans using the word "glockenspiel" :D

apart from that I never heard that in cheiron productions :o

I think the "song" itself doesn't need a singer. it's a smooth instrumental for summer days. could imagine hearing this as background music while sitting in a bar :D

But glockenspiel isn't a instrument right? I don't know any other name for that...

Thank you guys for the nice words :D

Concerning the glockenspiel: I think I should have said xylophone LOL  ...they make very similar sounds. You hear it a LOT in Max's choruses. It usually doubles the main melody in the background. Listen closely to these choruses:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=200COPwAy5U

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C-u5WLJ9Yk4 <--also pre-chorus

It is there, but very soft, maybe listen with headphones

Anyways, if you guys come up with any lyrics or anything, feel free to like record over it or post them here. I'd love to work on it with you :)

The sound that you used sounds like a "Glockenspiel" indeed.

Now I know which sound you mean in the Cheiron productions. That's neither a Glockenspiel nor a Xylophone (you better search for a real Xylophone sound on YouTube ??? ), it's just a synthie bell.

Btw: you don't really have to listen closely to the songs to hear the bell, it's obvious :P

Well depending on what you listen to the song with it might not be as obvious  :P
But yeah...synthe bell..glock...xylophone..very similar sound

I listen to EVERYTHING because I hear EVERYTHING :D

And noooooo, a xylophone sounds so much different than the other instruments :(

Yes, but we can't assume everybody here makes music and listens that closely! It could be hard to hear for an average listener!

Okay in MY OPINION, the glock and xylo are super similar...especially in the higher range. I mean you hit them both with mallets and they have similar shapes. Yes glock is a "thicker" sound but they are still similar you must agree!!  :'(

No, the xylophones' bars are made of wood whereas the glockenspiel is a metallophone. That's the main difference and you should actually hear the difference between a wooden and a metal sound. And no (again), the xylophone has the thicker sound.

...I disagree about the thickness part.

Listen to these and compare:

Glockenspiel: Cute, Light sound ---> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DH8Fb1kKsGM

Xylophone: Heavier, meaty sound, THICKER! ---> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BHP5xjBP-9I

Lol, but anyways. It's quite cool how Max uses that sound, I've only really heard it used like that on Cheiron stuff.

What kind of thing you think it would suit better? a pop thing or a more alternative sound?

Well I've always wanted to make a killer pop song! But I think improvising and doing what you think sounds good and pleases your ears is cool too. This isn't being used for anything, just a fun thing!

RedOne does the xylophone-like melodic effect in his songs. the Jlo songs, the ones with Nicki, and now this new song he did with Porcelain Black, "Rich Boi"

Wow , Great song , Although the intro of the song reminds me to ''The joker'' of Steve Miller band.
