Guys I was inspired by this song, I love its atmosphere and I want to make a spotify playlist with songs with that vibe which I would describe as: retro and chill yet dark, moody, reflective (lyrics), and more importantly hypnotic but still groovy.
lol
Other similar songs I think fit the profile are: The Weeknd's 'Starboy' and 'Feel it coming', Taylor Swift's 'Style' (although this one's happier sounding), which some of you have already mentioned in another topic.
I also read someone on youtube comparing it to Africa - Toto (which is spot on when it comes to atmosphere) and even Michael Jackson's 'They Don't Care About Us'
So can you guys suggest some songs that fit the description, they don't necessarily have to be recent or produced by the Max, Ali, etc.
Thanks!
Kanye West - Homecoming
Ali is a huge Ed Banger fan.

Because you can tell in his sound design.
I think what some of your mentioned songs have in common is not only the rather atmospheric/dark vibe, but the also the flow created by sometimes (sometimes not) side-chained patterns of 16th notes in the production either by arpeggiated synths, or a flowing guitar or hihat pattern. I guess 'flow' always goes well with 'atmospheric'. I also love that combination. Other songs that come to my mind:
Ariana Grande, The Weeknd - Love Me Harder https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g5qU7p7yOY8 (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g5qU7p7yOY8)
Olly Murs - You Don't Know Love https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cAU7zsnH3Go (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cAU7zsnH3Go)
Betty Who - High Society https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-xOUCQfzE4M (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-xOUCQfzE4M)
OneRepublic - Kids https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AIiTRr4lxZM (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AIiTRr4lxZM)

Hope you like those songs too.
