http://www.directlyrics.com/new-song-grl-vacation-news.html Something about this chorus makes me happy! :D (Actually, I know what it is.......the bass part...it's dope!)
I love the pop vibe of the song!! , Great song!
And don't forget Cirkut!
Not bad. Summer track. its fun. But I dont like the production somehow.
Cady will also be on the Smurfs soundtrack, hope it is a Lundin song.
It's nice! but I don't love it, maybe it's a grower.
Hehe, it's even better. Co-written by Max.

I really like this song - except for the chorus :-\ actually the most important part of a song. I mean that Cirkut bass is dope but the remain of the chorus is quite disappointing.
Serban Ghenea does play a big role in the whole Max/Luke sound, doesn't he?
At this ASCAP session or somewhere else I think we could hear the version before and after.

Another Luke/Max song obviously.
Are these songs written especially for the band or just random songs Luke and Max have in the safe waiting for a band willing to record them?

Luke and Max don't have many songs in the safe. And GRL is a Kemosabe act, so it pretty much means that they're writing exclusively for them. Just like Becky G, Ke$ha ect.

Yes sounds def like Lukut but once again it's obvious:
The more unknown the artist, the worse the production. Noticed that a few times already. Also when Max was involved.

I think they're allowed because they're not working with established artists, maybe that's the reason.

Agreed. The last chorus makes the song. The ad-libs and the added synths are great. Also appreciate the repeat of the end chorus - whereas in Nicki Minaj's "Young Forever (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bx9iWVDWkfE)," Luke didn't repeat the final chorus and it really needed a reprise. This is notable of late 90/early 00s Max productions. You need the repeat to give it that LAST final punch. Any added sounds or vocal ad-libs left to add in, give it all there before the big finish.
The beat isn't at all innovative but I think it's more about how the song grows with each part. Some off key notes (I think Luke does this purposely in his productions…I've noticed it many other times before) and the two transitions into the pre-chorus seem to be delayed. Like it's a tad bit off beat when it comes in.
But other than that, I've had the song on repeat. It's really an ear worm.

It's pop perfection. And very innovative. So many cool ideas in the melody. Contrast-ful. Love it a lot.
For me it's that R&B element in the singing, melody phrasing that really does it.....this song could cross over to that part of radio....it's a groove!!

OMG how lame! >:(
So I figured out what the "new" thing is:
On the version from the "NOW That's What I Call Music" sampler there is that short oriental "aaa-aaaay/ooo-oooooh"-bridge-part at 1:09 - 1:18 between the first chorus and the 2nd verse.
They cut that part out in the "new" version. Really, and that's what I just spend a dollar fuckin twentynine on? :o >:(
Guess they had to do that in order to be able to release it as a single, cause the other version is probably licensed exclusively to "NOW That's What I Call Music".
"Show me what u got" is soon also realeased in Germany. You should have waited :D

Seriously. Everything they released so far is great.
I don't care about Pitbull as long as we get such beautiful pop chorus'.
This sounds like a Max hook! Masterpiece.
I like that pop/folk/urban mix, the second half of the chorus hits hard, love the production. And the songwriting captivates a certain authenticity that fits well with the whole folk thing. It's close to the melody of Last Goodbye by Ke$ha; Ammar Malik is credited on both songs.

It's not that I dislike him, but he gets so boring. All his gimmicks are

Even RedOne learned that after 2 years, noone wanted their favourite songs to start with "ReeeeedOoooone" anymore! -.-

I love it , Amazing Chorus.
im sick and tired of pitbull
alright, so I finally listened to this. It's really good, I guess we can agree on that. And I'm totally with J_A24 on this one. Pitbull is really successful with what he does, and he established himself in a big big way. I probably couldn't listen to a whole album by MissaWorldwiiide, but regardless, he's fun when he's on the radio, and "his" songs kick friend, plus some lyrics are hilarious. :)
But I have a completely different question, particularly to other songwriters out there: While the melody is good, I would probably never have recorded it. Why? Because I would think that it sounds so familiar, like you've heard it a thousand times before, and that somebody out there certainly has already recorded it. Call it fear of being called a copycat. :) Wouldn't you have thought the same if you had come up with this melody? how do you guys deal with this?
The "folk" touch of this song hits the current megatrend (which is probably over soon), that you score big with just a bassdrum and strumming guitars. So many similar songs have been on the charts, including songs like James Blunt's Bonfire Heart and many other Ryan Tedder-penned tracks.

GRRRL :D
GRL sounds good, but all of their voices are generic singing voices. There's something unique missing.
There is no "generic" in voices J_A24... a good voice is a good voice! Unless you meant a voice like Adele or Macy Gray to sound special?
In my opinion, the group is a copy of the Pussycat Dolls and I think they won't make it because of it and also the Dr.Luke/Max stuff just didn't work with them as a group because, the way I see it, their stuff work better with solo singers.

They do sound good, but by generic I meant that it's a voice in a million. With groups like that, they tend to develop their own vocal identity with time.
And I don't think they will work either, but not because of the music, they're just really bland overall.

I agree with you. You hear a voice and you find something interesting on it: character, a personality.
And for me, these girls have nothing special, apart from being hot girls. And you don't see the hotness of the girls while you listening music, unless you're watching TV.

Agree totally. The songs are great, but I don't see any real reason for this group to exist, other than to make money. It's not like the world was waiting for......another semi-hot looking girl group.

I think all the songs that they've released so far are better than that single. And yeah, the whole nu-folk thing will be the theme for the rest of the year. I like that sound, but the market is gonna be saturated by a bunch of songs like these and it will make them all feel less special.

I'm a sucker for the folk-pop trend and am totally fine with Ke$ha's "Last Goodbye" being a blueprint for pop hits in 2014. I love how the chorus flows and I love the way the girls sing it with such a determined charge. I can't even explain it right now, all I can say is this is stunning!
Me too. I discovered this band from Berlin "Mighty Oaks" - check them out.

Well "Show Me What You Got" and "Ugly Heart" are certainly two of the best songs I have heard in quite a while! So euphoric. And "Wild Wild Love" too. But "Girls Are Always Right" sounds kind if annoying and on one listen "Rewind" seemed pretty average. I don't want them to make the album! I want an entire Max/Luke/Cirkut pop genius album.

I like those lyrics too, even though I tease about GRL sometimes :D One thing I like about this song (and even parts of "Wild Heart") is that the rythyms of the melody and the way the lyrics fall is a bit "awkward'' -- but really catchy and fresh. It's like they took some chances on it, and I find it inspiring.
It's the vocal production and the unoriginal voices of the girls, that's it.
Sung by someone else, with a more characteristic and charismatic voice it would be far better.
Can you imagine someone like Rihanna singing that chorus? Her tone just fits a chorus sang that way.
Uh-oh.....this girl nailed it! http://www.hitfix.com/news/pitbull-and-grl-visit-the-playboy-mansion-in-laughably-bad-wild-wild-love-video
yeah i was really puzzled by the video. it just doesn't make sense. the awkward jump to the other mansion location, and the girls just dumbly prancing around Pitbull. and the dancing they barely had any of.
Oh no not Pitbull again ??? Whoever likes this "rapper"..?
This don't add up, how many times how we heard that chorus? Way too generic..

Long live this wild wild love of ours - in a world like this i got you, anyone hear something similar?
The beginning of the chorus sounds similar to the build of the IAWLT

Nice video.......now your face is like your heart.......UGLY ;)
Excellent video
Still not my cup of tea, musically.
Visually, they are not appealing like The Saturdays or Girls Aloud.
The whole thing feels weak.
I just can't with them.
Everything is SO over the top: they look like trannies.
No offense intended, of course.
Exactly.
It feels forced, like they are trying too hard. :-X
What is this?

I'll have you know G.R.L. will soon release their very own jazz standards album, "G.R.L. Goes Gershwin". lol!! :D
Ugly Heart is amazing
Show Me What You Got is really catchy
Rewind and Girls Are Always Right are also quite good
Don't Talk About Love is unbearable
''Rewind'' has amazing hooks , The Hook of the Chorus is epic.
GRL member Simone has committed suicide. Horrible news... RIP.
"Show Me What You Got", "Ugly Heart" and "Rewind" are three of the most joyous, magical songs I have heard in so long. Such pop brilliance. Now when I listen to them it will be with a tinge of sadness. :'(
oh dear, that is horrible! so sad. and she was so young, so much to live for. yes, I will be feeling a bit sad too listening to their songs now.
RIP
HEartbreaking news!
I used to get so happy when I listened to them, now I just get depressed

Why? It has exactly the same meaning.

I don't see anything wrong with it. It's just the way you are reading it.
And 'btw' they put RIP on gravestones too.
Sad news :'( , Rip.

People using acronyms like BTW it's so disrespectful with the language. Come on!
It's like, someone's charging you extra money for writing every letter?
Don't be lazy.
And, I think this project is over. I'd write an horror screenplay about this: band mates killing each other for fame or attention.
Can we please stop this discussion. Things are sad enough. Thank you very much.
I agree. Stop making such a huge drama about this "RIP" thing. I don't see any problem with it at all. Everybody wants to be so posh nowadays with all your hashtags and whatnot. But using the abbrevation "R.I.P." (which is super common) is SUCH a big deal now? C'mon.
Oh and Benny, I hope this won't stand in the way of our just-beginning "wunderbare Freundschaft", but!!!!!!!

The title "drama queen"...you really earned it with this one! :P
Plus you payed your disrespect to Denniz! :-\
Touché.
Sorry 'bout that Benny.
lol
or is it 'kek' nowadays? been spending too much time on 4chan lately..
haha that's hilarious. It has the exact same meaning. And if it is so very disrespectful, why do you write it yourself?
But why even bring this up in this thread?
Well they've got a new song coming up called "Lighthouse" and the snippet sounds great, really emotional:

Great melodies all over, still sounds demo-ish.
Lighthouse sounds good.
Lighthouse is out now:
"Lighthouse" written by Lukasz Gottwald, Theron Thomas, Timothy Thomas and Henry Walter and produced by Dr. Luke and Cirkut.

QuoteG.R.L. is urging fans to visit www.grlgivesanhour.org to learn more about helping those who are hurting to achieve mental wellness. Give an Hour is a non-profit 501 (c)(3), founded in September 2005 by Dr. Barbara Van Dahlen, a psychologist in the Washington, D.C., area. By leading a collective impact effort to change the story in America around mental health, mental illness, and wellness, Give an Hour and its partners will educate Americans about the signs of emotional suffering and will work to eliminate the barriers that prevent those in need from seeking the help and support they deserve.
Great song. Proper bridges seem to be making a comeback slowly.
No Max, though.

It's okay... Nowhere near as good as Ugly Heart/Show Me What You Got/Rewind. Rehashed guitar-led production, uninteresting melodies, woefully emotionless lyrics... I like the "oh woah oh"s and the build in the final chorus.
I liked the simple chord progression and Cirkut's sonic craft.
I expected a bigger chorus though...
Reading the credits my friend turnaround posted above: additional vocals on a 4 piece vocal ensemble?
Come on, these girls are lazy...
Which was the last song Max and Luke did together?

From 2014 there's "Wild Wild Love" and "Show Me What You Got", as well as Shakira's "Dare" but I think they produced that a couple years ago. Interesting to see if they continue to go separate ways. Something to do with Dr. Luke's behaviour maybe. Benny Blanco and Max seem to be distancing themselves.

I think what Alexander is pointing out is the obvious fact that they have a male backing vocals in order to get the vocals right. It's quite hard for a girl to imitate a mans voice, they use a man for the for the low harmonies in the chorus and for the "ooh ooh" parts. Also it's quite good to have a person from the other gender to get a better sounding mix, just as Max martin used girls on the backstreet boys background vocals and himself did some of the backing vocals on the britney albums! (you can for instance hear his voice in the BGV of baby one more time).

According to ASCAP "Lighthouse" was in fact co-written by MAX MARTIN!!
wow, thanks Jules! I had no idea.
According to turnaround, RCA says it was not co-written by Max. The question is now, who's right, who's wrong? The record company or ASCAP?
Jules is right. Max indeed has writing cred for "Lighthouse"!
The itunes file says: Lukasz Gottwald, Theron Thomas, Timothy Thomas & Henry Walter.

What is your source?
STIM.
That's really interesting. Is there a public search at stim?
Why would they not mention Max in the songwriting credits?
He earns royalties now that he is registered for that song?
For members yes :)
I'm not sure! But I mean, it's not the first time that wikipedia has the wrong info etc. But I agree that it's a little bit weird. But if he's registered at STIM and ASCAP as a writer that should be true.
