Perfect. Hopefully a few killer tracks and a new #1 for Max.
Their "R&B/Rock" sound... come, it's pop!
get ready for another smash
Exciting!!! , I hope a summer hit!!
Interscope? thats gagas and ellies record labels
Not a fan of maroon 5.
but its cool benny blanco is involved
1st single is called "Maps" and is released June 16th. Excited!
Written by Benny Blanco, Ryan Tedder, Ammar Malik, Noel Zancanella and Adam Levine.
Yay. Will be great no doubt.
I'm excited about this.
But Adam Levine should go solo, they're pretending to be a band when the other members are not involved and "their" songs are pitched to them by songwriters and producers...

Adam Levine, Ryan Tedder, Benjamin Levin, Ammar Malik & Noel Zancanella is what I got.
We'll have to wait and see.
Not shellback and max. I think benny wrote on Twitter it's him, Amman malik, Ryan tedder snd Adam Levine. Plus i can hear on the guitar it's no max/shellback, the riff is not good enough ;)
Anyone else feel am I wrong by nico and vinz a bit?
Great song , I like it , pure pop , We need more songs like these.

The guitar riff actually reminds me of The Police.
Written by Adam Levine, Ryan Tedder, Benjamin Levin, Ammar Malik & Noel Zancanella, according to the iTunes file.
And yes, sounds a lot like The Police... I'm not really feeling it.
Those awful glissando vocals in the chorus...

That part is the make or break part of the song. Personally at the first couple of listens, I thought it was kind of out of place, almost as if it's a mistake, but the more I listen to the song the more it becomes part of it and it grows on me.
I feel and hear that in many Luke songs too. I don't know if it's something that's done deliberately, but it works for me most of the time.
Dang, that would've been a good question for the ascap expo.
Not liking "Maps" at all..and I am even trying so hard LOL...
ASCAP lists the writers:
Adam Levine
Ryan Tedder
Benny Blanco
Noel Zancanella
Ammar Malik
Max did not writer or produce this one.

duh, this song sounds soo... unimpressive? It didn't feel like the first time i heard "payphone" or "one more night", i jusssttt don't like it huh. and the "I was there for you in your darkest times" part is which probably reminds you of Message in the bottle
my main issue is that the pre-chorus should've been doubled. it's too short with those two lines. at least for the first pre. and his falsetto in the song can be a little shrill. feel like they could have lowered the key a half or whole step.
melody is good, i like the glissando effect, the "Following, following, following" and simple production. still, the song doesn't WOW you. but it is good.
I really like this song, it's sounds great to me.

This song sounds more like a left-over from their last album in my opinion.

Overexposed was a smart move after having low sales with their other albums.

I think Maps sounds like a mashup of Nico/Vinz - Am I Wrong and a par for the course Shellback chorus. Compare the verse guitar and the vocal vibe with the verse and chorus vocal melody in Maps: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bg1sT4ILG0w .

I love ''It was always you'' , Fresh sound with an amazing production , it can be a great hit and a classic for the band.
It sounds good, I love it, but these kind of tracks are never big hits. Because it's too pretty.
There's often a touch of "What the hell is this?" in a big hit, this song just makes to much sense altogether. If it's marketed well, I can see it being top 10.
It Was Always You doesn't sound like a single at all. Neither like a hit. Next please
two alright songs, but no pop HIT so far. In my opinion IWAY is better than maps. Let's hope the third single will kill.
I'm kinda dissapointed that shellback failed and got neither 1st or 2nd single.
I start to enjoy MAPS. Not 100% yet but I can see the appeal.
Maps is a grower, it's not and instant but it's doing well.

But in general it's really like they tried not to be so obvious this time. The last album had so many instant songs and now they try to avoid it a bit.

Fantastic song. I agree about the Shellback vibe.
The chorus lyrics are creepy though...
I prefer this song over maps. The only thing i hate about it is that downlifter they've used a lot in cher lloyd stuff. You can hear it clearly at 2:42 http://youtu.be/7BJ3ZXpserc?t=2m42s

before you pointed that out, the production already reminded me a bit of Cher Lloyd's stuff. the drums specifically
Very good song of course but by far not as good as Maps in my opinion. Especially the post chorus is pretty weak

Enjoy people from New Zealand. Australia should be next soon.
wikipedia has pretty detailed credits now but there are two Martins. (Max and Sam) and so I don't really know if Max was the vocal producers on two songs or not.
I'm listening to the album right now.
I like it: it's really well produced, though the songs are not that instant.
It's like a sequel to Overexposed, in the same vein.
The Gwen Stefani collabo is overhyped: is a ballad.
My currently favorite is Sugar, sounds like Katy Perry's Birthday, a Prince influenced track.
The Shellback tracks are so well crafted sonically.
what's up with the vocal production on Gwen's parts in that duet? rough engineering, ouch.
Sugar is funky, with tight production. Ryn Weaver has some background vocals in Leaving California. Unkiss Me is a pretty instant and grand. Feelings -- mmm that swift chorus. Digging Adam's vocals throughout these songs, the 1 octave lower tracked with his falsetto especially (New Love) Nice
Benny Blanco's style has changed quite a bit. the beats and synths - i miss that punch he used to have in his songs. Even with Stereo Hearts and Moves Like Jagger... then again, those song's choruses were massive and super catchy.
I think I might prefer Overexposed upon first listen to V.
Feelings sounds amazing. I'm quite enjoying the production.
For people interested in this, they have a special part in the booklet about the gear: they use Arturia plugins, Waves Plugins, Addictive Drums, Sound Toys plugins, Native Instruments stuff and Shure mics.
My favorite after the first listen is leaving california. I know that the people shellback made in your pocket with are A production duo so maybe shellback Only did topline on it, who knows. Animals has probably the most hit potential after maps.
Haha after one more night Adam says "Whatever" and after Feelings he does the same thing and goes "that's fine".
Doesn't it feel like you've heard the chorus to my heart is open before? That is one of the few that I like though and I like Sia as a writer.
As you said there are no super catchy songs that gets you instantly. But I will listen to it again soon and maybe I get a better feeling of the album.
Sugar really is birthday part 2
And I like unkiss me aswell!
So I'm pretty sure it's the other Martin that did vocal production on those two songs since he wrote them, but according to wiki Max Martin was exec!
"Unkiss Me" is a early favourite of mine. Though I'm not yet through and there are songs that definitely need more listens.
I believe "Leaving California" is a gem.
It has the Stargate beat and the wonderful songwriting of Nate Ruess. He always creates very specific melodies.
"Headlights", "Just Give Me A Reason" - very good songs.

yep, in the digital booklet it lists Max as exec producer.
So what exactly was Max job?
An executive producer has multiple roles: booking sessions with songwriters and producers and supervising the whole project, mostly A&Ring.
He did the same thing with Luke on Britney's Femme Fatale.
Leaving Cali is an amazing song!! defo my fave tune on the album. I also love the vocal production on the shellback 'feelings' record. Unkiss me is brilliant, Ross golan + Johan did a great job on that too. Overall a brilliant album ;D
most carelessly artwork/booklet in awhile though!! :-\
Amazing pop album , my favourites are the singles and specially ''it was always you'' , what a pop song! , I love too ''Feelings'' , ''Leaving california'' , ''My heart is open'' , ''In your pocket'' and ''New love''. A pity Max didn't produce any song.
Max recorded the vocals for "Animals" with Shellback.
My heart is open is so weird. Such a quiet ballad with so much auto tune and 4(!!!) producers!?!?!
The chorus topline of Sugar is soooo brilliant!!!
Sugar and Unkiss Me (strongest pre chorus in awhile!!!!) are my favorite songs after Maps
Animals: I really hate that "ah oooooooooooooooh" part at the end of the mid8 that leads to the final chorus(es)
It was always you: The part between chorus 2 and mid8 sounds like the Earth Song lol.
Leaving California: why does it end the way it ends? Way too soon!
There really must appear a mash-up of "Birthday" and "Sugar".
in my opinion there's a lot of amazing production on this record but there is no super good song (melody) except I would say Leaving California.
I can't believe how Animals is the 2nd single instead of Leaving California. :-\
One thing I don't like is how the nice beat in New Love just ends and a super fast 4 to the floor comes in on the chorus. Ruins it for me
Leaving California is one of the worst songs on this album in my opinion. Horrible post chorus (oh oh oh ..... + unnecessary half time beat) + the actual end should've been the mid8 ... bad songwriting in my opinion when it comes to the arrangement
Leaving California just got more amazing for me. Ryn Weaver does some background vocals on it (the "huh-huh"s in the 2nd chorus.)
But if you filter out the song, you can hear her doing harmonies on the second pre-chorus. it's so awesome to hear her on it. "But if you run away, I won't be alright!"
https://soundcloud.com/user5004831/leaving-california-ryn-weaver-bg-vox
This is the best song on the album, along with Sugar and Unkiss Me.
I love the "yes please" lyric in Sugar. It just sounds cool :D
Maps is among the top 6 songs of this decade for me:
Diamonds
Hold It Against Me
In A World Like This
Maps
Till The World Ends
Where Have You Been
(alphabetical order, Diamonds is my #1 though!)
The first time i heard "leaving california" reminds me of "Wavin flag"
I think it's awesome that Leaving California only have two choruses. Not the same song structure all the time. And it's smart because I don't get tired off it as fast. Makes me want to listen to again.

the shorter a song the faster it gets tired for me. I thought everybody would see it like that because the other way around it makes actually no sense
re Maps: I've actually never heard such a P E R F E C T interplay of harmonies, melody, lyrics and vocals in a chorus. especially the melody flow of "kneeeees" with the semitone step and the way he's singing "and you said you had my back", he sounds so full of anger and power at the same time there. this is sooooooo brilliant
Quote from: B Steady on August 31, 2014, 10:36:11 PM

First of all LC isn't short, it's just a different structure.
And also, say you listen to an album and first there's a song with the chorus going 4 times or something, and then there's a song with 2 choruses. Let's say they are just as catchy/good. I have to say it makes lots of sense to see it like me, because then you have just heard that chorus twice as many times and wants to listen to it again!
But it can also be the opposite for me also, with a great mid8 and one final big chorus etc.
AND I know that in Pop music the word REPEATING is important and I'd say 80-90% of Max songs has 3 or more choruses
There are many highlights on that album. Great production lovely melodies. Thumbs up from me.

Reading that people think the album is too much OneRepublic. I can see the point. Especially "New love", "Maps".
But that's the price for working with Ryan Tedder.

I think you're overestimating what a vocal producer does a little bit ;)
No, as far as I've heard, Max is credited as vocal producer on "Animals", and even though Max is generally regarded as the best vocal producer in the world together with maybe Kuk Harell, it doesn't make or break the song. It's about having the singer deliver their best possible performance and arranging harmonies etc. It enhances the song yes, but my comment was regarding the statement "I like the song because of Max's vocal production". That is just false. Especially for a song like "Animals" with a non-complex vocal structure.
I don't like the song because of that , I like the song for his melodies , structure etc , I say that this Max influence make me like the song more if it's possible. Or maybe not , but it can be possible , it's my favourite song of the album and it's the only where Max contributed , Coincidence?

Yeah , this part is amazing , perfect melodies!
Yes it is. Shellback wrote it with Benny B. That is the reason why it's so good. You would have liked it as much if Shellback produced the vocals himself (or Benny).

Again ...... Max only recorded vocals for Animals
Luke played Guitars, Synth Bass, Drums, Percussion and Keyboards on Sugar but is not listed as a producer.
Thanks for the info. Now found out that Max was also the executive producer of the album and added some additional programming on some tracks. I always wondered what an executive producer does nowadays. Probably what a producer did in the old days? Just more suggestions and less hands on?
The video for Animals is out:

And I hate it.
I hate the animals hanging and the sexual suggested scenes covered in blood.
What if we use human bodies and human blood? what would be that?

Ugh -- sounds horrible, aint even gonna watch it. I hate s**t like that...as if there isn't enough real-life horror, they have to make up videos about it? Lame!!
Well said!! Wont bother. Annoying.
oh yeah, the video is so creepy! especially the stalker theme. yuk. I think it makes me like the song less.
the video is great what are you all saying? the blood, his sexy body. it's an interesting take on the song. however, i am ready for a less "dark" video next single. and if Sugar is the next one, i'm sure we'll be getting bright bubble gum.
Probably trying to raise some kind of controversy to get the sales going.
Incredible acoustic live version of "Animals" by Maroon 5 ......this is pop singing at its best!!! http://youtu.be/l183y-Vo9vU
It's fake comic channel
Sugar is confirmed as the next single from V.
Such a sweet song, the title pretty much describes the song.
Sugar video is out: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=09R8_2nJtjg
wow, thats some loud crowd noise! :o
Even the video is similar to birthday. If the song highest spot on hot 100 is 17, the omen will come true :P
#6 on the billboard hot 100. To be honest, I'm not a big fan.

Same here. Maroon 5 is on a roll though, so it's no surprise how well it's been charting.
Weird, because this album seems to me like it's not that successfull... like a low profile success.
More than half of the popuation are female.. soo
I guess there's a lot of potential buyers for this
Recording of V picture.
Conway studios must be incredible.

The album itself is not a success as far as sales (in fact, it's the lowest number of their careers and they haven't even cracked 1m), but that depends on what standards you are using for measuring success. You can't compare these sales to previous years because the music business is just not the same. The only artist selling albums like it's 1999 is Taylor Swift. Maroon 5's success is coming via streaming, radio, touring, merchandise, etc. They are still easily one of the biggest bands in the world and will make millions upon millions each year, especially Adam.
I think they're looking for that final push to reach top of the charts: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O_eCQYK4a2Q

Looks like it'll work. #1 on radio this week and all signs pointing to #1 on Billboard. Looks like Luke will keep his mentor from another #1 for now...
News:
Maroon 5 "This Summer's Gonna Hurt" is a new single by the American band allegedly part of a "V" album repack. "This Summer's Gonna Hurt" is out on May 26.
Performed on The Voice ...... Again a Shellback worldwide summer hit?
That would be cool.
^ is it confirmed that its Shellback in the production???
BTW;
a new track confirmed on BMI
She Smiles So Sad | Chris McFadden, Adam Levine, Sam Martin, Max Martin, Mason Levy
Uhm, so the re-release of V it's confirmed?
Not yet confirmed.
But the new song is produced by Shellback, according to wikipedia which cite a Shellback twitter status.

THIS
SUMMER'S
GONNA
HURT
LIKE A MOTHER AH HA
So much more purposeful and infectious than anything on V.
One of the biggest choruses I've heard in years.
A pop explosion.
Wow, that song is f*cking anthem!
lol first I read your comments and then I was expecting what you wrote. instead I got to hear a pretty boring and average pop song that is worse than 90% of V. besides that I'm wondering how much a mother actually hurts.

Same here. I didn't like V that much either, only 3-4 songs, but dammit...this new one is just so boring.
I always do a little test - listen to the song and then try to remember it in an hour. This one didn't pass the test :-\
only now I saw the video above. funny that they sing "fucker" in this version

I hate everything about that song. The chorus is horrendous.
Sounds good, nice melody and production.
The lyrics are awful as hell.
Btw, they have just added the song to the V album.
So no Re-Edition?
iTunes says that Shellback and Adam have composed the song.
A song with attitude and balls. I like it.
I actually really like this song now. Perfect summer jam.

Weird move: in the iTunes US Store the song is available as a deluxe version of the album and that's it.

It's nice to see him finally making some activity on twitter. I guess since he now "learns" how not to work that much :)
omg it is him :D
Johan is funny, weird sense of humor.
And the video is awful, I expected something to happen but it's like a nonsense road movie.

Are you referring to him calling himself a chic?
Well...that has to do with Adam twitting a few years ago his picture and saying "She's hot". :D
In case anyone interested, the song is meant to be about ex-Shellback's girlfriend Rebecca Stella. Explains a lot :)
I think Johan should date Taylor Swift and then break up with her. Just imagine how many songs will be born then ;D

You're a big Shellback fan! hahaha
I checked Max Martin wikipedia page -not really reliable source, but lately we got info from there that was confirmed- and I found a new Maroon 5 song named "She Smiles So Sad", written by Adam Levine, Sam Martin, Chris McFadden, Mason Levy with some kind of involvement by Max.
Yes, it's been there for a while and everyone expected a new edition with more than just the current song added to it.
I don't understand why they did not include the other new song on the album when they even bother to reissue it (digitally and also as CDs)
New song:
"What Lovers Do"
LEVINE A/EVIGAN J/HAZZARD B

pretty addicted to this song, it's got lots of replay value. the verses, pre chorus, the added beat in the second pre chorus, SZA's feature, the production. it's got that hypnotizing affect. even got a proper bridge for a 3:15 song. love this.

How is this a surprise when the chorus is a direct copy of their song "Sexual"?
It would've been a surprise (not to say a shame) if their names wouldn't show up in the credits.
I don't get it, "Sexual" came out a year ago and now we already have a copy of it. This makes the Maroon 5 song completely unnecessary.

A copy? You mean a drums + bass guitar chorus?
Mm, sounds similar, but call it a copy?

Ooh, excited for the Cirkut and Andrew Watt collab.
Totally non-cohesive, like a singles compilation album, I liked most of the songs though. I really like Lost.
The memories remix is a disgrace, specially because they put it right after Memories, doesn't do any justice for Jordi.
I love the sound in Lost and Echo echo echo echo echo where my heart used to beat beat beat beat.
I agree about not sounding cohesive as a whole.
And I think there's a lot of reverb in some parts, vocals, guitars... and it disturbs me a bit.
Not to mention his voice sounds pretty bad throughout. Lazy vocal production or maybe he just stopped trying to deliver a solid vocal.
