Hi Fhill, glad that you learnt a lot from my posts.
-Concerning the strings, indeed I mentioned it is Oberheim Matrix-12 Strings. Someone mentioned that it came from vintage keys pro preset 15 or something. But I do recommend using Gforce VSM for these strings because they have a very good quality compared to what comes out of JV1080 vst or the EMU-lator EMUlator plugin (PM if you want the EMU-lator and I direct you to the download link, as it is no longer officialy accesable). The other point you might have missed is that it should be layered with the Hammond C3 organ (hence the preset is called M12/C3). I've never specialised in different organ sounds, so I can't really give you a picky advice but there are plenty of organ sounds and I'm sure some company has state of the art samples from a Hammond C3. So if you find the hammond samples + an emulation vst of matrix-12 or even oberheim x8 can do as they aren't really that different. Then use some lo-fi plugin or something (and try out u-he satin for 90's gear replicate) and work your way towards the character of the sound you are looking for.
-http://www.vintagesynth.com/ Here you can read a lot about synths and romplers. This is very handy when you are studying what gear cheiron had and to determine what function it had in their studio.
-There is a cheiron equipmentlist on this forum. you probably already saw it, but if not check it out. They had a yamaha dx7, which is a pain in the a$$ synth to program. it is very likely that cheiron merely used the presets of that synth. It is known for bells. The bells max used on carolina liar show me what you're looking for were 4 or 8 layered samples of bells, chad wolf said in a podcast with Lesley Roy. Bells are everywhere but especially FM/PM synths were known for it and the bells on romplers for a fair share should probably come from the DX7 but also a LAS synth like the Roland D-50. My favorite FM to replace DX7 hardware is u-he Bazile, it just sounds like magic and it is my overall sweetest synth, and Omnisphere 2 is the best replacement for D-50 (made by the same person eric persing)
-Concerning the sub. When you talk sub I think about 0hz to about 100hz. When you have a bass to fill the sub I would use a sine wave in most cases and layer it with something wide above 100hz. Serum will do, it's a very consistent sub in volume (the danger is that some subs get weaker at certain notes and thus the sub looses power but serum doesnt do that).
-Thank you for your transparancy on how you approached the 'Cheiron sound' problem. Check out the manual of the EMu AUdity 2000 and see if you can find your preset there
http://www.synthmanuals.com/manuals/emu/audity_2000/operations_manual/audity_2000.pdf. From there it might be able to know what was the original souce of the sample used by the Audity 2000.
