How are the lyrics bland? Like what did y'all expect from a Katy Perry pop song...

nanofives

It's not like it hasn't been a problem before, the difference is that all eyes are on Katy right now, I wouldn't complain about that on another time.
Either way, it's not enough for me to not enjoy the song, I love it, and I don't get the hate train that it's getting on Twitter.

j.fco.morales

To me sounds very much like what Oliver did with all his collaborations with Slayyyter and Kim Petras, that's his style.

A demo leaked and has a different structure and a different bridge with a guitar solo.

nanofives

I loved that guitar solo from the demo, but it lacked a good transition to the final chorus. It's interesting how the lyrics are mostly unchanged from the demo, kinda like the demo of part of me that was sorta similar but less punchy.

#94
LIFETIMES - Katy Perry

Written by Lunchmoney Lewis, Katy Perry, Rocco Did It Again!, Ryan OG, Sarah Hudson, Theron Thomas, Vaughn Oliver, Dr. Luke
Produced by Dr. Luke and Vaughn Oliver

It's FAR superior than Woman's World, but I'm surprised with the lack of a second chorus OR a bridge, feels like the whole song is a giant chorus with one verse, the idea is very solid, but for a runtime of 3:14 minutes there's only a minute of new material.
I hope it performs better than Woman's World

i agree, the chorus gets very repetitive heard so many times but maybe that was the goal. the idea is solid but the overall production at times sounds half-baked. sounds more Vaughn than Luke, as well. hoping there's glossier cuts on the full album

Why Cirkut is not involved in this project? He's everywhere atm and he would be a great collaborator.

I like LIFETIMES a lot actually but I didn't understand the structure: the part where the lyrics are "like the sun is always rising" is a verse? a pre?  It only happens one time. There's no verse 2 I think.

And the mix: Serban and Bryce Bordone always make an amazing job.

nanofives

I don't rule out Cirkut yet, but it may be a label thing picking up Dr. Luke track's first since it's a big thing on paper.
I also don't think Cirkut and Luke end up in good terms, after all, Cirkut said he collaborated with Luke because of a contract thing, unless that was a decoy to the allegations of working with an alleged rapist at the time. Either way, it's been 6 years since they collaborated together.

Cirkut and luke were the best team. I was hoping to see luke collaborating with max for this album, but I guess it's not happening.

j.fco.morales

I think the current pop team production at Prescription is Rocco Valdes, Aaron Joseph and Oliver.

melodicmoonlight

I agree Cirkut and Luke were the best team, with Max Martin ofc.

but lately, Luke's solo production has been better than his collabs. He produced Slut Pop Miami himself which is impeccable from a production/sonic pov. Another example is "Ghetto Love" by big boss vette. his production style is way more glossy, refined, and catchy than even the newest Katy Perry songs.

j.fco.morales

Cirkut's been doing GREAT lately. Seven and Standing Next to You by Jungkook, King of Hearts and Claws by Kim Petras, his tracks on BRAT... come on.

The internet is not doing too good with the 143 era of Katy Perry overall, social media's reactions can only be described as chaotic, I would say Dr. Luke was the center of all the drama, but then a handful of other issues with message, videos, artistic choices are haunting her left and right.
I feel sad for her, because most of them proves a point besides Luke's arguments.
I'm shocked on how people are labelling woman's world and lifetimes some of the worst songs ever released, it's almost like everyone wants to be on the train of using Dr. Luke to hate Katy as if it's an issue that wasn't present before with other artists that worked with him recently.
At this point I don't think there's anything that could convince the internet otherwise.

The song "Garden" by Becky G, produced by Dr Luke for her scrapped debut English album finally leaked last week.

nanofives

Sounds very 2014 Luke + Cirkut, I wish we get to hear all the songs scrapped from that era, like the full English version of Teen In The City
