I figured we need a thread where any user can write down his/her song of the day :D
If I Lose Myself - OneRepublic (prod. by Benny Blanco, Ryan Tedder & Brent Kutzle)
The Greatest Reward - Celine Dion (prod. by Kristian Lundin & Andreas Carlsson)
Great choice B-Steady. I love this track.
I think "A new day has come" and "One heart" where really strong pop albums, "One heart" sadly was underrated.
My Cheiron song of the day is "I want new Colours" by Janet Leon.
does the song have to be cheiron related?

To Be Able To Love - Jessica Folker (prod. by Kristian Lundin)
one of the very best refrains EVER! it's always blowing me away ...
I love it too. Jessica had amazing tracks. Timeless pop. The voice and the production.
My song of the day:
Tim Bendzko - Am seidenen Faden
I forgot about our other "Song Of The Day" thread, but that was Cheiron only.

Right Back In The Water
My favourite track by him is "Because you live" (Andreas)
I should really check out his other songs. "Right Back In The Water" is cute.
Five - Don't Wanna Let You Go
THE hardest rockin Max/Luke track of them all! :-D http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=88KmPHXNzt0
P!NK - It's All Your Fault
And I also like Alone by Avril!
So rocky, but still it has a great melody. That's what Luke and Max meant. There are so many rock songs out there, but they don't have a good enough melody.

There's a Danish writer/producer that I think is ultra talented called Remee, he wrote or co-wrote all of S.O.A.P.'s tracks for both their albums, and they remain one of my favourite pop acts to this day mainly because of the writing they had behind them.
Their most well known is of course "This Is How We Party".

And there's a lot of covers in A New Day Has Come, almost half of the album...
Oh, which musical? I had no idea.
And yes, the "A new day has come" is a pretty good album, but a bit patchy.
I still think it was ridiculous to release "Have You Ever Been in Love" also on "One heart" - but I guess the songwriters were happy about it.

This is the original one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZG4Ap1I0d0k
"Nature Boy," a 1947 song made popular by Nat King Cole that features Dion accompanied only by piano as originally foreseen symphonic orchestration was not added; "At Last," a gospel-tinged number first recorded by Glenn Miller in 1941; "Ten Days," a rock-oriented adaptation of "Tomber" (2000) by Gérald de Palmas which was recorded at the last minute after Dion heard the original French version; "The Greatest Reward," an adaptation of "L'envie d'aimer" (2000) from the French musical Les Dix Commandements, performed originally by Daniel Lévi; and "Aun Existe Amor," a Spanish-language version of Dion's French song "L'amour existe encore."
Celine was at her best in A New Day Has Come, it's a superproduction: lots of really talented people crafting wonderful songs for a wonderful voice and a A&R person making the best song choices!
And I guess I'm more into not that mainstream stuff, I'm absolutely loving the new Basement Jaxx single, it's AMAZING:

Good stuff.
I've been listening to their debut album "Hope and Fears", and I'm so hooked by 2 or 3 songs right now that I don't pay much attention to the rest. But I'm planning on listening to their whole discography in the upcoming days. They have some strong moments melodically, it's not all about the lead singer's voice like in many bands, even though the lead singer has an amazing voice. Songwriting takes the spotlight often in their songs it seems.

I've been listening a lot Caribou's latest release, this one is my favourite: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PFcdXvJIfSM
It's like electronica, R&B and house blended into a song.
Well aren't we already? :)
I dig that sound, I'm working on stuff like that lately. Thanks for the track.

Currently listening to Niia's EP, produced by Robin Hannibal from Quadron and Rhye.
I'm so excited about the new Mark Ronson album!

Loving these two!
Take That released a new album, Greg Kurstin, John Shanks and Stuart Price with most the production (three of my favorites)
My personal favorite is "Freeze" produced by Greg Kurstin:

It's quite "adult contemporary", so nothing groundbreaking, but I've always liked that band for some reason. Gary Barlow is an accomplished songwriter and their music is quite meaningful when it's not ultra-universal, you always find a couple of gems in their albums.
I don't care about the genres, as long as the songs are well crafted, musically, lyrically or sonically :)
I've been listening to this song the whole day

The song sounds very Keaneish, no surprise since Stuart has worked with Keane on several of their albums before. I love the Stuart Price remix to These Days though, its a shame a song like that can't be played in the U.S.
Production wise sounds really good, but when it comes to songwriting and melodies I'm not that excited...

Absolutely, the first thing I thought when I heard some of the album was Keane. They were in studio with Tim Rice Oxley last year, but nothing made it on the record.
@jfco Yeah, that's the thing, Gary Barlow and Mark Owen are the main songwriters and they're both very hit or miss in that aspect. I feel like they tried to sound a bit more american with this album, but the hooks are lacking. That said, I don't think they've ever been about that style of songwriting. It's more "adult".
Come to think of it, the Greg Kurstin collaboration was a natural outcome due to his alliance with Lily Allen and her love for this song by them that inspired her own track "Who'd have known" :P

I heard about it, she wrote almost the same melody without even knowing their song, so she gave credit and kept the chorus the way it was... to prevent legal issues.
Greg has been a miss lately: the Lily Allen album and the Sia album sounds really good but it's the same thing about the hooks and songwriting.

I think both Sia and Lily are more inclined towards lyricism as artists. I think Greg is more of a producer/instrumentalist/engineer type than a topliner, just like Stuart Price. That's why I think many artists really love working with him, they have more creative freedom songwriting wise compared to guys like Luke and Max.
Absolutely agree, as always J.
I'm really into Vaults, recently signed to Republic in the US.

I have. I love it, but I love the first release better: the production was more challenging.
A couple days ago I asked Labrinth about working with Mike Spencer and he kindly added me to his followers and made my day.
His new single Jealous is outstanding, I hope it would do great.
The line "it's hard for me to say I'm jealous of the way you're happy without me " just gets me.

Yeah this album is much more pop, but I really dig it. And Jealous is an amazing song, the bridge just gives me chills. Really musical, love it.
I'm diggin the new Mark Ronson material, features Mystikal -impersonating his inner James Brown-.
The album features Kevin Parker, Stevie Wonder, Michael Chabon doing the entire songwriting.

Classic songwriting.
Tim Rice-Oxley from Keane is a co-writer. He's really good.
Does anyone know Bomba Estéreo? They're from Colombia.
You can hear some vallenato influenced stuff mixed with a trap drop. Actually, the main riff from Coldplay's Adventure of a Lifetime reminds me a lot of the riff in Fiesta.
Bomba Estéreo did a whole album with Ricky Reed and I still don't understand why this wasn't an international hit, the song is pure fire:

I swear that when I saw on Ricky Reed's wiki that he produced the whole album of them I kinda wanted to listen, but I had a Little bit of negation with Bomba Estereo after I listened to Fuego I never wanted to listen anything from them anymore. How come they met with Ricky and did that amount of songs?
The instrumental is nice, it's easy to tell that is Eric's production, I hope more Latin American artists get into the American production team business like Tini Stoessel did, the music from here is a Little stuck on the time.

There's a hidden Max Martin gem in One Heart: In His Touch.
The arrangements, the lyrics, the vocals. Is such a great song, my fave by far in that album.
It's not hidden, it can be found between track 3 and 5 ::)

I think she is as generic as it gets, just like Tini Stoessel. But for me it's a blessing because I'm not feeling Spanish music at all, and even more Argentinian pop.

I won't deny it, I'm totally aware of how widespread Latin music is right now and the last couple of years, but it's a matter of taste why I don't like it. It just doesn't have appeal for me, it's got a lot to do with the context I grew up with.

Definitely song of the day if it is produced by one of our community members! How were you involved in the process of songwriting and producing? Perhaps you could say something about how both those processes went, and are you responsible for the arrangmennt?
Oh guys, I appreciate your interest!
Well, we've been friends with the artist for a while and we decided to give it a go and start writing together. He said to me one time that he wanted to try some hyperpop stuff and other friends showed me the music from a 15 year old producer from Concepción, Chile. As a kid, I always wanted to talk about music with someone and sometimes receive some advice, so I try to do that with my fellow colleagues and young producers all the time, and this time happened this way. I have NO IDEA about hyperpop, so this young kid started showing me his beats and I liked one specifically. I showed the track to my artist friend and he said "I LOVE IT, CAN WE WRITE A SONG OVER IT?". We called the young kid, explained the situation, offered an amount of money and a 33% of writing. The first draft had a different structure and we changed it in order to make it as poppier as possible. We both loved a sound in the chorus that sounded like a toy and decided to use that as a non explicit part of the song, a sexual innuendo. We came with the concept first: a neighbour. You have a crush on a neighbour and if you want to f*ck, I'm down for it too. The translated lyrics in the chorus would be something like "a new guy is in the neighbourhood, he only wants to f*ck f*ck with me, I don't care if we remains friends, I only want to f*ck f*ck with you".
I wanted to feel a contrast between the different parts of the structure and Rey is BIG AUTOTUNE STAN, so we fought a lot about the vocal production. So I said: if you want over the top tuned vocals, we need other part with naturals vocals. He agreed. Also, he's a big fan of Sailor Moon and we had that imagery to build the bridge and the "robot" vocal in the climax of the song, before the last chorus. I'm proud of that and I love that's so over the top.
The lyrics are a total joke, the production is over the top and we wrote the song in two sessions, because we were in quarantine when we wrote the song, back in May 2021. It tooks us maybe, 1 hour? The vocal production was very hard and the mixing required many changes but the engineer totally understood what we wanted to do.
I'm so happy, it's my first release this year. I'm executive producing the whole project and producing most the songs for the next project.
Hope you guys like it! :)
Comments on production:
-Final mix (spectral and level mix): I think the final mix has a lot of potential to improve. The division of elements over certain frequencies is really out of balance in this song. I'm sure that with the mix assistance of Neutron 3 that problem could be solved. Aside from the spectral mix, I also think the level mix could improve (can be done with Neutron 3 as well). It's really gonna improve this song by 20% in my view.
-Sound design: Add some instrument(s) that plays a chord progression and get rid of that bass in the intro and bring in the chord progression. The choice of sounds could improve and the high frequencies at 2:15 are clashing with each other. You either separate them through panning or by letting them both dominate in a different frequency or mute one of the two.
-Vocal production: The chorus is not wide. 1 vocal in mono 1 hard panned left 1 hard panned right. Try that as a start. But in the chorus the mix does not become wider and does not become much louder and that are two things that have to happen.
-Overall: there is still a long way to go, but don't be discouraged by my comments because we learn the most by failing and realise that we are actually not arrived at top level.
Songwriting:
-The riff is simply not good. Get rid of it and find a different one.
-The toy sound is disturbing the melody and not necessary in the verse 1.
-Overall: There are more comments on songwriting but it will be easier to tell once the final mix is balanced. Don't be discouraged but it was a difficult job from the start if u took the kid's beat and were not willing to radically change it (I think that was the case). It's obvious that the kid is still a primitive writer so there is no other way than to radically change his work. It would sound logical to me if you completely changed his sound design decisions and to emphasise transitions from one section to the other (for example by giving the chord progression a clear ending at the end of the verse). Well, hope this helps and really hope my feedback doesn't discourage you but instead gives you motivation to learn from wrong decisions made in this production.
Well, I think it's a matter of taste as well. I had a hard time with the vocals and with the mix engineering: at first we couldn't find someone who knew about the references. The first mix with other engineer was trash. TRASH. We had to look for other engineers we could afford and get the vibe of the song.
Sometimes it feels like you never finish the songs: you listen and think "oh this could have been better" so I see songs as pictures, a memory.
Thank you for your feedback though. I'm still looking for mixing engineers I could afford and people who understand what I'm trying to do sound wise. I'm working on my mixing skills as well but it's not something I particularly like or enjoy. I would love to talk to you about mixing :)
-If you are looking for a mixer, use the AI of Neutron 3. It delivers very good results and you can adjust settings. Put Ozone 9 on the master, use the AI and you are really close to a top notch mastered song. The current mix is also trash, believe me.
-I'm listening again so let me give some more comments.
Intro: get rid of the fitering in and/or of the bass. The intro is turn off to me.
-The section frmo 0:44ff leave it like that. It is simple, accesible and mellow.
-I would change the kick for a more common one and also consider making the 0:58ff section the kick more rhythmic instead of 4 on the beat.
-The pre chorus at 1:13 i also find it funny somehow, so for now I would say leave it like that.
-After the pre chorus something weird happens. That's where I expect a second verse but there is a totally new section coming. Now the song is too difficult to follow for my simple mind so I lose interest in the song.
-Last tip: try to listen to a lot of instrumentals of Max and Luke from 2004 and further. And compare Teenage Dream to American Girl and see if you can see why the american girl chorus isn't as impactful as teenage dream chorus so compare all 3 or 4 chorus sections of the song with each other. It will open your eyes arrangmentwise. Don't be discouraged at all because I've been making these flaws as well.

Hey everyone! Not sure if I've ever posted on here, but I've been lurking for years and years now haha. My friend just released a song that I co-wrote and produced and I'd love to hear your thoughts! It's a mildly trap-influenced dance-pop song called Love Language. I've been super inspired by Max and Luke and the whole Cheiron/MXM/Wolf Cousins gang for literally as long as I can remember, and you might be able to hear their influence in my writing and production. Also, fun fact - my publisher is the guy who signed N'Sync in the US and has told me so many cool stories from his work back in the 90s and his working with Dennis Pop, which blew my mind when I first met him and we started talking haha.
ANYWAY, I'd love to hear what you all think of this track! :)

Great work! I also like the post chorus :)
Hey very nice song! I suppose that you're into serious production for at least 5 years? Overall this song is just at a very professional level already. The level that you're at, you can get signed to some important publishing companies I suppose.
Here are some critical notes that might help you (or not).
-Ad libs: I would expect to hear ad libs in the second chorus but they seem absent. It would bring an extra layer of energy to the second chorus and is very natural to commonly occur at the second part of the second chorus. If you would focus more on where to place ad libs the dynamics in energy level could be stretched even further.
-Topline verse and pre: First of all, the chorus melody sounds good enough and the verse and pre are really close to sounding good enough. However, if you divide verse and pre into call and responses, then what I miss is a change in rhythmic pace between those calls and responses: the pace seems rather similar while having a stronger contrast would give these toplines more of a "playful" character. Example of call and response having a clear difference in pace is Taylor Swift Blank space Verse. Forgive me if I write the lyrics incorrect because i dont know them. "Nice to meet you, where u going (call, slow pace), I could show u incredible things (response, quick pace)"
-The transition from for example chorus 1 to verse 2 is very good. You give the listener time to prepare for something new that is coming and I love that. However, when u end chorus 2 you go straight into the bridge. This could work in certain settings but I experienced the transition too quick in this case. I think the song would be stronger if you would give the listener a little time to prepare for something new before the topline of the bridge is introduced.
-FX: When you transition between sections the FX that introduce that something new is coming or about to come are not dominantly present. My personal taste is to have them more dominantly present. That's just something to consider but FX is a matter of taste really and dependent on current trends in pop. I personally like a rizer to grow and become a dominant part of the mix at it's loudest.
-Final comment: I embrace the fact that you introduce a b-hook (some call it a post-chorus) to the song and it sounds really cool. So the chorus and b-hook are good. The way you combine the two in chorus 3 is exceptional and your craftmanswork is crystal clear there. I would just love the "lo-lo-lo-love language x2" to continue from 2:42 as BGV. You might have to play with the mix of that "lo-lo-lo" to ensure it doesn't clash with the lead vocals that start at 2:42. Or else try this suggestion from 2:54. It could raise the energy level of this song to explosion level.

Hey! Congrats on the song, it's awesome! Excellent vocal production and I love the post-chorus melody! So catchy. :) Great work. Adding it to my September playlist. Oh, and I and I'm sure the others on this forum would love to hear any stories you feel comfortable sharing! Congrats again!!
Thank you thank you! I'm super proud of the vocal production on this one, and the post chorus hooK too :)
I don't really have a whole lot I can share, but I do remember that he once said he signed them shortly after the original space-themed I Want You Back video came out and that when he came into a label meeting in the US and showed them that music video, he got laughed out of the room!

Great work! I also like the post chorus :)
Thank you! I came up with it as I was walking from my car into work hahaha. It seems like most of my best hooks come up that way! 😅

Wow this is so thorough! Thank you for taking the time to write this out!
Yeah I've only really been seriously producing stuff since late 2016, but I've been messing around with production as a hobby through my teens since like 2009/2010.
With regards to the adlibs: I personally am generally not a fan of adlibs in the second chorus! I usually like to save them. I think there's like one or two in there somewhere. Mostly I wanted to leave room for people to experience the new level of the production that comes in with the second chorus.
Interesting thoughts on the call and response writing! I don't write a whole lot of call and response hooks - I'm gonna keep this in mind next time I do a session! 😁
Transitions: interesting call out! This was more of a personal decision again, just my taste that's all, I prefer to try and keep them a little more low-key to match the energy of the song, unless it's a really intense track.
B-hook: really great idea! I actually sometimes do this, not sure why I didn't do this on this track, maybe the mix and production just got too chaotic? My publisher also got me to do an alternate version with the b-hook repeated again with a filter fade-out in case radio asked for it, that does kinda bring back the catchiness of it, but I wanted to keep it concise for the actual final release ☺️
Thank you again everyone! I'll be sure to post again when my next release happens!! 😁😁

I'm not that excited about the use of Rendezvous by Craig David.

I'm obsessed with her album, Vargas & Lagola did an outstanding job producing the whole thing, I wish they sound like this on their solo work.

After collaborating with Luke back in 2015 I always kept an eye on Space Primates, and all the songs they did with GASHI are awesome
Addison Rae - I Got It Bad leaked today. produced by Oscar Gorres (OZGO) and co-written by Madison Love. a big pop bop, early 2000s pop influences.

This is soooooo good.
I wonder why she's taking so long to release music, I couldn't find if she was dropped from the label.
Apparently this song is hyping fans since September.
Such a thin voice.
Sounds nice though.

labels are scared to release pure pop songs. less trendy and more of a risk. her last single flopped too which was pretty pop

Yep- her most recent album has several great pop tracks. Red Flags, House on Fire, Freezing, Last Train to London, Remind You
