Anyone heard the song 'No Promises'? Its been recorded by both Shane Ward and Bryan Rice.
There was a discussion about Max Martin in another forum I belong to, one of the songwriters of 'No Promises' said this:
"I made what Max Martin considered the best song of 2006 , talk about being extremely flattered ;D "
When I asked if he had met Max he replied:
"Yes I meet him once at an MTV award show, and thats where he told that he thought it was the best song that year IHO, that pretty much made my day :)"
He also said this about the writing of the song:
"Actually the chorus was meant to be the verse, but we (my partner in crime and me) could not find a chorus being worthy, so we looked into re-arranging the song and wrote a new verse. I instantly feel in love with the new verse, and that's why the two verses are identical, it just worked so damn well :)
Prior to "No Promises" we did anything BUT write songs, for half a year we were totally consumed with online gaming, but one day we somehow decided to sit down and write a damn song.. (guess it was a good day and a good decision.. ;D
I estimate we used about 20-30 minutes to come up with a the basic parts of the song."

wow, that's really interesting Scott, I have always wondered what music Max loves. "No Promises" is a great song, I love it too. It is quite a Cheiron sounding song too.
amazing that the songwriters who wrote it didn't write songs before that.
No promises was great!!!! 8)
yes , it is a amazing song!! max has good tastes :)
Really powerful song yeah!! Bryan's version is better, better production IMO.
It is a very Max-ish melody, no wonder he likes it! I love the song!!
the chorus is amazing especially during the near end of the song but I don't really like the verses and the first chorus

yes, really funny that it's such a Max-ish melody, but I suppose it makes sense that he loves the songs similar sounding to what he writes.
Ok but why max if you like no promises and for you was song of the year 2006 don't write a song with similar sonority?
I fell in love with this song the moment I saw it on TV, which is the Shayne version, I thought it was really awesome, the song was really successful over here, I remember it was everybody's ringtone.
BTW the song is WAYS better than Max's song "If That's OK with You".
Do you prefer Bryan's or Shayne's version guys?
I prefer Shayne's version, but maybe because it's the one I'm most familiar with.
Shayne's version.
mmm , I dont know I love both versions but maybe shayne version is more perfect.

Me, defintely Shayne, although I guess he one of the worst vocalists out there.
shayne ward is the british justin timberlake ;)
Hi Guys, I like Shanes version for the more modern production, but I think Bryan is a better singer.
In Shane's version, you can hear the auto-tune on his voice. Its all over the place. :)
Exactly. Bryan's voice is better of course but also the music is. I didn't really consider Shayne is more famous and already has other songs we like...
Actually, they had made music before - or at least Lucas Sieber had. According to ASCAP, he wrote 4 of Daze's songs, including the hits Superhero and Toy Boy. I just checked Wikipedia, and actually he was a member of the band. Quite different to No Promises, but fun pop music all the same.
Very interesting info thanks, gotta check those songs.
Welcome to the forum by the way! ;)
oh, that is interesting, thanks! I love to read all these little details people find.
Yes, me too! I waste so much time scouring sites like ASCAP, Allmusic and Wikipedia to find such interesting snippets. It's a bit of an obsession, but it's so exciting when you discover really surprising links, such as this one between Daze and Shayne Ward. Who would think they'd be connected? At the moment I am doing research for a feature for my blog where I am going to write factfiles on each of my favourite songwriters, and I'm trying to get some interviews arranged with them too. I will let you know if I get any good ones!
yes, me too, ASCAP!
ooh, I like the sound of that feature Jessica, I hope you can interview some great songwriters. Songwriters are so rarely interviewed.

Please persist with this, I think it would make great reading!
Cheers,
Scott.
I will try my best! I have a lot of work to do right now cos I'm in the last few months of my bachelor degree, but I will contact some people and see if I can start the feature soon. If I cannot get to interview the songwriters themselves (some are very private and hard to contact), I might try to find an artist or technician who has worked with the writer and ask them what it was like.

Sorry to say, but it's certainly not true. I personally know some of the songwriters of this song and they are top-songwriters from DK with a lot of international experience...

Hi Klukan, what exactly are you saying is not true?
I spoke to Lucas Sieber, and he told the story of Max loving his song, and saying what he said.
No I'm just saying that it ain't true that they haven't been writing songs before that one
Oh ok, fair enough. ;)
