Do any of you guys sometimes wonder about how the same producer that writes great stuff for Katy Perry and since you been gone etc is OK with releasing so much mediocre - crappie stuff for other artists?

I know he likes lots of kinds of music - I'm just perplexed as to whether the good stuff is the exception or the bad stuff is

And I wonder if he can even tell the difference himself

If I'd written melodies as good as Domino I feel very self conscious releasing some of the other stuff

Maybe he does it for the money - as its hard for me to imagine he can't tell the difference

Max is great but he's not perfect. At the end of the day, he has a lot of songs that never see the light of day. When a label wants him to work on Taylor Swift, Katy Perry, Maroon 5, and such artists, they are paying lots of $$$ to write original songs and what not whereas Max might give songs to artists who just want a Max Martin song but not high on his agenda.

Hey man - thanks for the reply - I actually was referring to Luke.

I think Max in general throughout the years , his AVERAGE song score is higher than Luke and his bad ones aren't AS bad
as some of Luke's recent stuff.

I get how both he and Luke can't always make gems - I think Max in general, there's a minimal quality there

I just really can't figure out tho how Luke is ok with releasing some of his lower end stuff - And I think the answer is money-
But part of me also thinks maybe the great ones he did were aberrations - Maybe he needs Katy, Max, and Claude Kelly to keep him focused - and he can't do it without them

I think its because Luke is more of a track guy and less of a song man. So he and his team make great tracks then bring in topliners to create the main melody and lyrics, so depending on who you get it can turn out great or not

Sort of - when he writes with Max, Max does contribute lots of melodies.  But Luke actually writes a lot of melodies.
"Domino" , the verse of "Who Knew" and "Since U Been Gone", "Party In The USA" , and many many more

I think it has more to do with the caliber of the singer, and the fact that he gives his "A" songs to the very best singers

If we are talking about HITS... than there's a common thread running through Lukes HIT songs, and that thread is Max Martin. The further Max and Luke drifted and the more that Luke was collabing with other topliners, the worse his songs became. The tracks are dope... but the songs aren't great.

j.fco.morales

I think Luke's is focused on business at the moment, not songwriting/producing.

Yeah for the most part - he did write 1 or 2 good complete melodies on his own - i think the actual chord changes in the new songs
aren't as good

Hes probly surrounded by "yes men" when he's not writing with Max
who are afraid to tell him that something is average

True about Luke and Max. Look at My Life Would Suck Without You. Max, Luke, and Claude Kelly. the track is strong, and as we've seen here, Luke had a strong melody. but the topline really makes the song soar.

Edit: I filtered out the demo playing in the background and uploaded. You can hear the lyric about weed: "I met her in high school, she was smoking pot then, I thought that that was cool."

Where did you upload it to? You have a link?

Thank you. The lyrics about weed are hilarious. Is that Max singing?

j.fco.morales

That's Luke right there, of course.

Words in function to melody.
