I've found the cowbell sound. It's in E-Mu ProCussion module. They have added a delay on it, most likely a Roland SDE-330.

I got obsessed with understanding the actual craft and mentality behind the hits, not just musical analysis. Most songwriting resources are pretty surface level in this regard imo so I'm proud of this work.
