hi folks
I was wondering.. with everyone saying that you need to be in the States for really getting to work with the big guns, does Max still operate out of Stockholm mostly? I'm aware Maratone is there, but do the artists fly in or does he "simply" write the songs with studio singers, sends the song to a producer who then records the song somewhere in the States? Considering he and Shellback do both produce and write, I was wondering if Max really mostly is in Stockholm or anywhere in the States. :)
does anyone know how I have to imagine the process?

i think it depends on who he's working with...I know
that if he writes together with Luke they do most of
the stuff at Conway in Hollywood, but I'm sure he does
a lot of the actuall writing in his own Studio in Stockholm...
yeah, I agree with Dominik, I think he mainly works in Stockholm but then goes to LA to work with Dr Luke for say a big artist like Britney.
I've also noticed in some songs credits that say the song is recorded in Stockholm and the vocals recorded in LA. So maybe that's when the artist is too busy to travel.
Avril Lavigne went to Stockholm though.
When Britney performed in Denmark in the summer 2009, she went straight to Stockholm afterwards to record "3" the day after.
I know Savan, Rami, Carl, and Kristian are all in Stockholm and have been for a while now. They have visa issues going on and don't know when they'll be returning to L.A. So if BSB want's to work with them they have to fly to Stockholm...
oh wow, I didn't realise that Rami would be back in Stockholm now, I thought he'd be in LA for good, I didn't think about visa issues. good they're all back in Stockholm.
Rami, Carl and Steve Angello resides in A Side Productions old location at Svartensgatan 8. With other words, Kinglet Studios have moved from L.A. to Stockholm. A Side is now located at Tavastgatan, a few minutes away from there.
just curious: where do you know this from? that they have visa problems etc... ? does anyone of you know them personally?
This is interesting because I know that Kristian Lundin was in LA back in May 2011 but it's great if they're now back in Sweden.
dr luke said that max martin has a recording-songwriting room, or producing studio in LA.
thats what i heard.
I heard they have a mirror studio in L.A.
Carl and Savan are in LA/ Hollywood actually. Carl and his wife moved over living in hollywood hills.
Oh interesting. I thought Savan lived in Stockholm.
I guess he travels a lot as he is involved in so many different songwriting teams anyway.
Anyone remembers the very cool studio pictures of the Maratone studio? Anyone has current pictures of the studio?
Where does Shellback mostly work?
Kristian lives in LA actually, Kristina Maria usually writes she is recording with Kristian in L.A.
Yes i thought Savan was Swedish but he's an American
this thread is 3 years old but reading it again feels like it was just yesterday :)
Actually, Max has silently moved to LA a few years ago. He bought a house in Hollywood and has his studio over there (not in the house I guess :o).
Wolf Cousins operate in Stockholm with Max supervising them from LA?

Something like that :) However, I don't see why the term "supervise" is used, it's not a day job where you have to punch in and out ;)
I think Max just got tired of flying back and forth, though he seems to be in Sweden a lot.
Also, as Dr Luke once revealed, with these famous artists it's really hard to plan anything. They change plans on the fly...they broke up with boyfriends, someone invited them to a yacht in Spain or they just don't feel like recording ( and many many more reasons). Well, not everybody is like that, but imagine you book a session with Kanye and come over all the way from Sweden to face "Nah, man, my poop looks pretty sad today, I think we have to reschedule".
I guess bringing artists to Stockholm is a nice idea as they are thrown out of their environment and have less distractions.
It makes sense... but a 11 hours flight from LA to STHLM is a bit exhausting...

Excuse me if I'm wrong, I'm not a visa expert, but how people who work for US major industry companies can have any visa issues?:)
Well, except if they brake the law.

Anyone who's a foreigner trying to set ground in the U.S. has to get a visa after a number of times of going back and forth. I know people who have the title of "Alien of extraordinary ability" in their visa lol :P

Haha, I know that. The point is that I don't see any problem for those guys to get a professional visa. They have so many business partners who would "hire" them for that matter.
Well, actually, on that level it's more likely that they open their own company in US and hire people ( and the government chants "taxes taxes taxes!") and get a visa.
Ellie Goulding is currently in Stockholm right now..

Have you seen her?:)
UPDATE: Oh, I saw the discussion of an instagram picture in another forum topic, so I think that's what you are relying on.

I think Max just got tired of flying back and forth, though he seems to be in Sweden a lot.
In the Swedish P4 interview, Max explains that the main reason for moving to LA was that he and his wife thought it would be an exciting experience for their daughter and a good way for her to learn the language etc.
He then says, that he's found that there's lot of benefits on the music production side as well.

Oh, thanks for the info!
What a lucky kid 8)
yes, thank you for the info!
Actually, moving to LA it was an amazing decision career-wise.

I really think it was already amazing :D
But seriously, I guess he was staying there quite often before, it's just that he moved his family there which made it "official".
Moving to LA was the best decision for Max, he is closer then to pick up all the awards he receives.
