I think we will have a second latino boom sometime this year or next.
Reggaeton is taking over the sound of the productions.
Ricky Martin released his new single last year with Maluma -the biggest current latin singer- with lyrics in spanish.
The single from the next Fast & Furious movie is a reggaeton song and features Pitbull, J Balvin -one of the biggest reggaeton stars- and Camila Cabello.
Is such a hit: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UWLr2va3hu0
There's a new english version available tomorrow.
The spanish version is waaaaaay better.
Well, I don't think of it as a boom, but more like a trend.
Most pop stars in Latin America are recording with Reggaeton artists.
Shakira recently worked with Maluma too (Chantaje) and then with the bachata artist Prince Royce (Deja Vu).
Also, Luis Fonsi's Despacito, with Daddy Yankee, is currently at No.44 in the Billboard Hot 100.

Despacito is a huge worldwide hit. 823 millions or Youtube plays.
J Balvin's Ginza has 685 millions... and counting.
I anticipate a second latin boom.

Latin artists dominate half of the most viewed songs on YouTube daily, with Luis Fonsi having the crown. I can't say the same with Spotify, but this isn't a trend to die anytime soon.
We shouldn't forget either Enrique iglesias and his third try of remaking bailando.

How nice - I used to love the first latin pop wave with Jennifer Lopez, Enrique Iglesias, Ricky Martin and Marc Anthony.
This new era is more urban - but it's great to have this influence back.

I think is because the audience is fully connected with the technology.
And they listen to music from Youtube.
People doesn't buy records or digital albums in Latin America.
In Latin America Spotify it's not very popular yet, that's why you wouldn't see Drake on these charts but still charting number one. Despacito it's a deal breaker, with 16m views daily it only peaked 42 or 43, a sign of how Latin American people are taking all over YouTube.
Too bad that the fast and furious song hasn't been release with Britney Spears.

Do you guys know the song? do you like it? do you understand a word? :D
I know this song for quite a while now and also observed the latin wave and how this song especially climbed in all the countries.
I had Spanish in school but I don't get too many. But Justin's Spanish sounds authentic to me.
Impressing, it's the first Latin song to reach the US top 10 in more than 20 years.

I love the chorus and how the last one gets bigger with the singing crowd, like pasito a pasito, suave suavecito at the end of Despacito (that song's full of hooks!)

"Bendecido" is pretty good!
I like CNCO
"Reggaeton Lento (Bailemos) [Remix]" should be a worldwide hit.
"Hey DJ (Pop Version)" also has lots of potential.
Shakira will have a new album out soon. I think it's the perfect time for her.
Btw - I listened to Luis Fonsi long before his big breakthrough hit now. He had lots of beautiful songs.
I love that in Latin pop ballads the singer give really their all into the song. Without being ashamed of being over the top.
I met Camila last february.

I'm looking for Despacito stems and full instrumental/TV track 😰
I'm waiting for Despacito to fade. its lifespan is much longer than the average english pop song, nevermind a latin pop song.
I think we can expect lots of Despacito soundalikes already.

Yes, this could also be a hit. But this time it's hard to tell. I don't think many songs will stand out enough for a world wide hit again.
It needs more than just Spanish language and a danceable beat to make it.
Well, Carlos Vives is huge in Latin America and Sebastian Yatra had a hit last year with Traicionera.

Colombian band Morat's new single features spanish singer Aitana (they are like the bubble gum latin version of OneRepublic to me).
It was produced by Mauricio Rengifo y Andrés Torres.
And Paloma Mami is doing GREAT at the moment, she released three singles and this one is her more recent, produced by Sharo Towers.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ltYUH6fEYdECheck the video, it was released three weeks ago and has 23m views on Youtube.

Mau y Ricky are Ricardo Montaner's siblings: their brothers is the head of A&R at Universal Latin and released their new album this friday.
They co-wrote Sin Pijama by Becky G.
Full of reggaeton bops and guest features.
I love the Tainy produced tracks on the album: Mal Acompañados, Mi Mala, Ya No Tiene Novio and Desconocidos.
Plus, colombian reggaeton star released her second album, after having a huge hit with "Mi Cama".

I really like the hook of the song, it's very catchy but I feel that the song is very out of place considering the other songs of the album, I like the salsa vibes, but doesn't fit in a reggaeton based album.

First one: Juanes just released a new song featuring Alessia Cara. Great vocals and guitar arrangements.
Second one: close J Balvin collaborator/co writer Jhay Cortez just released her second collection of songs, including a remix of No Me Conoce featuring the biggest two current latin stars: J Balvin and Bad Bunny.

I am now discovering their catalogue. So much good things apparently.
It's like Max Martin + Shellback + poppier side of OneRepublic in spanish.

Sounds so good. I love this powerful chorus with lots of voices and amazing harmonies.
Sounds like a weaker version of Sofia, I think it's notorious the lack of RedOne

Written by Bizarrap, Keitlyn, Santiago Alvarado and Shakira
Produced by Bizarrap
I just couldn't help posting this to honor my country, even though it's not a good song I feel like this is a huge step for South American writers and producers.
Personally I think Bizarrap lacks personality, I just can't point anything between any of his songs, and Shakira's voice is processed to oblivion. Probably the lyrics are the strongest attribution to the massive success it's having worldwide.
Ava Max and Kygo used Shakira's Whenever Wherever

Gosh, please, stop...
The song generated quite a lot of backlash due to the usage of that sample.
Instagram comments on Kygo's post are all full of people complaining that this is stealing and that samples should stop and that we should encourage artists to be original.
I couldn't disagree more with all these statements.
