Me too! It has quickly become my favourite One Republic song (admittedly, for some subconscious reason I easily fall for songs that have repeating vocal samples running in the background like the "ou-ou-ou ou ou ..." in this song  :) )

I like the song, but it may hurt Paul's reputation since it is so plastic pop.
Not that Paul doesn't know about that... But 2010s pop it's not the same as 1960s pop, and Paul wasn't interested until now on moving into something modern.
Apparently it's the only song he did with Tedder, the others are produced by Greg Kurstin.

The Global Journey Behind OneRepublic's "Counting Stars" with Songland's Ryan Tedder

I didn't know Ryan was in a TV show for songwriters called "Songland".
He was a contestant on one of these shows back in the day and Timbaland took him as a protegeé after seeing him there.

Well, what's interesting about the show -I'm watching it on YouTube- and basically: Ryan Tedder, Ester Dean and Shane McNally with a guest judge every week listen to 4 songwriters pitching songs to them live on TV. They got feedback right there, there' a band, they have guitars and the main instrument the guest judge plays and throw ideas right in the moment. The winner gets the songs recorded and released by the guest artist.

Considering they are CRAZY talented, the show looks GREAT. I'm so excited that I will start to watch it.

Matt's story sounds way more credibly than Zedd's reply, especially after seeing GREY breaking down "The Middle".
It's also astonishing who's obviously supporting Matt - and therefore positioning themselves against Zedd: Tiesto, Nicky Romero, Bebe Rexha, Sarah Hudson, Redfoo, Hilary Duff, Ashley Tisdale, and many more.

Just gave it a first listen. Guitars give me a major ,,Eye of the tiger" vibe which is ok I guess. The whole song sounds like 70's disco-era which I think kids won't enjoy much these days. Jessie J's vocal are incredible as usual but the whole thing is bound to be a flop in my book

Anf you're damn right. The mixing is phenomenal indeed. I think it sounds balanced without the typical bright high end of current billboard songs because it is supposed to sound like a classic record from the 70's. Think Studer tape machines and lots of warmth.

Distance is a jam. Could hear Adam Levine on vocals for sure, and even Adam Lambert would be cool. The album is pretty solid. Some melodies/production melt together but Ryan's so good at delivering a strong pop vocal.

Is Ryan Tedder trying to make his band go to Maroon 5 route? On older albums the other band members (Brent excluded) had songwriting credits and even production but now they're just there for the ride. I hate it when bands do this or the front man gets all the attention starts working with outside song doctors and shoves the rest of the band in the background.

If you're going to involve at least involve as a band or even at least sound like one rather than a Ryan solo project. It's the same thing when Adam Levine ditched maroon 5 after their fourth album and began adding more members but sounding less and less of a actual group but we all know that Adam has something mentally wrong with him since at this point in his career he doesn't know what the band is now either.

Even in the '80s bands like Genesis still sounded organic and try not to sound two different from what Phil Collins was working on.

i watched the Ryan Tedder Monthly songwriting course and in the introduction video he said that often when he is working with female singers he has to EQ out a lot of mid-range because many female singers have a screechy frequency which people cannot tolerate for long and un-EQ'd, the song would be unlistenable after a minute or 2 and no one would want to hear it again.

Well in both cases they just Auto-Tune or pitch corrected  it in post. Like Photoshop it's a sad reality that has become the go to in cases like this.

To me it felt like a random verse not from this song at all. I was surprised Ryan released something so incoherent. I wasn't surprised a k-pop entity released some bizarre collaboration because all k-pop collaborations with Western women are bizarre. Probably they are choosing by the lowest price for a feature. Wish I knew.
